It's my birthday soon ;D and I'm planning on getting some KAP material. The question is what should I get? I only have the 5.1 hardcover edition manual. I want to create new characters from a variety of different places so I'm think the book of knights and ladies would be a good choice. However, I also saw that The GPC book has more data on non-player characters and I'm wondering if the GPC will give me enough info to make new characters. I'm torn between the two books and am wondering what you good people here know about the different books. My group's playstyle is admittedly "non-canonical" Arthurian legend so I don't think I need the GPC for adventure/story's sake. Again all thoughts are welcome and I hope this question is being asked in the correct forum. Thanks for your help.

The 5th Ed GPC has an appendix detailing various religions, but I think you'd struggle to use it as any sort of guide to character creation. Even the Gamesmasters Characters PDF, while containing a variety of stat blocks, is too experienced-NPC-specific to be much use there IMHO.

If you wanted to make 5th Ed advanced characters you'd really need The Book Of Knights & Ladies. Unfortunately, that isn't available right now - two months ago there was talk from Greg of no longer waiting to do an updated version and just releasing the original files as PDFs, but there's been no update since then so I have no idea how long you'd need to wait.

If you aren't playing for a while then you might be as well just leaving it. If you're planning on playing soon, though, you may need to look at getting older edition Pendragon material (either in hardcopy or PDF format) to improvise from the character generation rules there.

That's good to know, thanks. my current session of Pendragon is coming to a close so i bet by next year they'll have the update, so I'll just wait. Thanks for the heads up! Also If I wait I may be able to get the hardback version of GPC when that comes out. :D

That slipped in quietly - the 'alert me when new products by Nocturnal become available' function clearly isn't working for me. Great news!

Yeah, I similarly didn't get an email so only saw when someone posted on the Pendragon Facebook page.

As someone who has been very grumpy at times about the lack of PDF copy of BoK&L, I must admit I gave quite a large whoop of joy when I saw that link. :-)

Now if only my coworkers would go away so I could print it in peace...
