View Full Version : Question about expanded Solo Scenario tables

So we did a "dry run" of the Winter Phase for the first time last night. It went pretty well, except I had a little trouble understanding these tables:

Questions:

1. ) So, do I roll for a Yearly Event regardless of whether or not I'm going to run a solo scenario(s)?

2.) I imagine the items in [Brackets] are things the PK can test against—an unopposed roll to determine the outcome, right? Player chooses ONE to test against?

3.) What are the little shields for? Does this mean I gain a check in this skill, trait or passion? By implication I don't get an automatic check in the [Bracketed] skills...?

4.) Some of the entries (like Muster 23) have items numbered 0, 1, 2, 3 result. How do i use these?

5.) The Winter Solo instructions read, "Chosen, select a summer solo but travel cost 1£/rider, horse get +1 frail and rider get no stewardship or any healing." So this means the GM (or is it the player?) chooses a scenario from the Summer list (Generic, Vassal Duty, Liege Court, Adventure, Love and Questing) but in addition he pays £1 per "rider" (meaning himself, his squire and any confederates or retinue he takes with), his horse gets +1 frail and the "rider" (the PK) gets no stewardship or healing checks.

6.) The "Generic" adventure just means you may win some Glory and some checks, but with no narrative component, right?

7.) Some of the tables (e.g. Knighthood, Chivalry, Victory) list an Adventure alternative. Is this in case the Knight doesn't qualify in some way?

8.) What are the "Saga" events? Is there any special implications to this?

In our test my PK chose the Generic scenario, but I wasn't sure what to do with it, because of 6, above. So we tried Vassal Duty and rolled a Muster (Table 23). I thought this was unlikely outcome for a Winter Scenario, but went with it just to see what would happen. First off, I didn't know where to roll for "Kin Survival" as indicated on Table 1. We forged ahead and rolled on the Muster sub-table — but didn't know what to do with the 0, 1, 2, 3 results (see 4, above).

I take it you just keep following the sub-tables as directed until you run out of table.

The rest of the Winter Phase was relatively straight forward. One other question came up: When you hire a new member to your retinue, it looks like you pay £1 just to locate a suitable candidate. Do you also pay the first year's salary now as well, or put it in your expenses for next year?

Thanks in advance!

Those tables were put together by Spoonist, using his expanded house rules for Kin Events and Solos, so you would need to seek help from him (I've not seen him on the boards for quite a while but you could try a PM) or one of his players.

EDIT: This thread may help a little if you've not already seen it - http://www.gspendragon.com/roundtable/index.php?topic=312.0

Thanks! The link to that thread proved most helpful. I think it will answer all of my questions!

Hate to revive an old thread, but I have a question about the expanded Solo Scenario tables... How does one use the "GENERIC" (5) table... I've made several guesses, none of which feel right...

Honestly, it seems like there's so much interest in these that it might well be a viable product. Expand it to 20 pages or so, put it out as a PDF for $5 or less...

Maybe a combination of the random feast, solo, and madness tables. Might even drop in the "courtly skills" tables for Arthurian and Uther periods that have been kicked around (Arthurian on the website, Uther here in the forum).
