I'm pleased to see that the Book of the Manor is now available again, however it only seems to be available as a PDF. Is it expected to be available as a Print on Demand title? As an additional complication I live in the UK, so has anyone used Drivethru's printing service here?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

All products will be treated the same
Thus, I understand it will eventually be available

Apologies if this seems like pushing but do you know what the time scale might be for having the book available as a Print on Demand? Is this something they should be doing ASAP, or could it be months away? I'm wondering whether to just bite the bullet, get the PDF and print it myself or it it's worth hanging on for it to be a POD title.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Is the Book of the Manor revised from the hard copy that was sold a while ago ?

No
I've checked and it is exactly the copy I did before
improved copies are in the works, and I'll ask about status etc.

It's not exactly the copy, if the preview is any indication. Text has been rearranged and the layout reorganized. While it may not be THE revision, it certainly is A revision.

By the eyes of Saint Michael!

I'm no saint, but I do have an editor's eye for detail. :D

I am beginning to see where the trouble is coming from!

Dare I ask? If this isn't the revised BOTM, Nocturnal really should change the ad copy on DriveThruRPG.

I can now report, having skimmed the entirety of the new PDF, that it's definitely a second edition. Many new manorial improvements added, such as the coneygarth. Notably absent are the abbey and nunnery, didn't immediately note any other deletions.

I’m curious – what’s new, apart from the coneygarth and (I assume) dovecote?
You can now get buried in style, too, I heard. That should be good for some post-humous glory, I bet. (Those knights never get enough …)

A summary, all based on a skim rather than a thorough read:
Village churches and temples are now Common Structures and can be spontaneously rebuilt.
You now build a cluster of commoners' house, not sure if the cost is the same.
Newly available Developments include a carpenter/joinery, a cooper, generosity to your peasants, and an enclosed well.
A newly available Enhancement is sentimental artwork.
Newly available Investments include a coneygarth and a dovecote.
Natural Population Growth gets its own category, rather than being organized as part of Investments.
No more abbey or nunnery, but Pagans can now build a votive well.

Thank you Sir

I am glad to see that this is edition that I thought it was.

A summary, all based on a skim rather than a thorough read:
Village churches and temples are now Common Structures and can be spontaneously rebuilt.

Because these things are not generally within the obligations of a lord. Paying for them is a generous thing to do, not normal.

You now build a cluster of commoners' house, not sure if the cost is the same.

so that you can lose part of a village, own part of a village, or (re)build part

Newly available Developments include a carpenter/joinery, a cooper, generosity to your peasants, and an enclosed well.

These are based on historical models, and are important for a village to turn into a town

A newly available Enhancement is sentimental artwork.

shades of Pygmalion here, but see also Tristram's Cave

Newly available Investments include a coneygarth and a dovecote.

of course

Natural Population Growth gets its own category, rather than being organized as part of Investments.

as it ought :)

No more abbey or nunnery, but Pagans can now build a votive well.

primarily because these are far beyond the normal build for a knight or banneret
but again, the church handles the cost of those by itself, not a lord

I dropped an email to Nocturnal asking if the BotM would be available as a Print On Demand title and this is what they came back with:

"BoM will be available in POD within the next week or so."

So it is on the way :)

And I'd also like to add that I was emailed back a few hours after I sent the email, which considering that the company is no doubt US based and given the time difference to the UK is something that I'm very impressed with indeed.

So a massive thumbs up for Nocturnal's customer service!

I've got my BoM via the Print on Demand thing with DriveThru RPGs. I must say it's very good quality. I can recommend it.

Where are you located?

I'm in the UK and I'm not too happy with my copy and after speaking to some friends who regularly use other PoD services will probably now be complaining.

Pretty much every other facing page is badly printed with a faded "line" running from top to bottom of the page.

what results?

I've contacted both Nocturnal (who have been excellent in terms of customer service before) and DriveThruRPG (who are a bit of an unknown to me) about this. It is a shame to see a great product let down by it's physical production. I'll come back with whatever responses I get.

I'm in the UK and my copy seems fine. I haven't given it a proper scrutiny though. I will have a check tonight.

An update on this....

27th October
I contacted DriveThruRPG.com and Stewart Wieck at Nocturnal. I heard back from both on the same day. Jeff Montgomery at DriveThruRPG gave me his own direct email address and while asking for more information on the fault also immediately offered a replacement, credit or a refund. Stewart was brilliant and asked to be kept up to date and to be told if DriveThru hadn't responded within 48 hours. I let Stewart know that DriveThru seemed to be on the case and he replied again asking to be told what the outcome was.

28th October
Jeff at DriveThruRPG got back to me again and said that a new copy of the book would be on its way to me in a couple of days.

No book arrived...

15th November
I emailed Jeff at DriveThruRPG asking if there was a problem.

16th November
Jeff emailed back, apologised, explained that there had been an error at the printers but that the book was now on its way out to me.

17th November
I get the book by UPS and it seems perfect :)

So my hat goes off to both Stewart Wieck at Nocturnal and Jeff Montgomery at DriveThruRPG.com. Stewart was concerned about a customer having issues with a purchase that had been made through another company. Jeff immediately reacted to a problematic printer, didn't hesitate to offer to sort it out and managed to get me a book ASAP after hearing about the latest delay.

And that is, in my opinion, brilliant customer service. It's a shame that the printer appears to have let them down twice but they all seemed to genuinely care and wanted to make things right.

I'm very happy, and having seen a hard copy of a Nocturnal Product printed out by DriveThruRPG wouldn't hesitate to order again.

So, since I have the original version of the BotM, is there a adendum page to give those of us with the old version all of the changes? Or do I need to buy a new copy?

The changes are few, if I recall correctly
I will happily post the changes on my site
