hi knightheads,

I've started paying attention to "The One Ring" rpg. One thing that keeps on coming up is Pendragon. I'm taking it that it's an influence of the game. That's the first game I've come across that I hear of Pendragon being an influence.

Anyone out there got any other games that Pdragon was influential with?

The designer of The One Ring has said that Pendragon was influential in his thinking, I think primarily in it's equivalent of the Winter Phase if memory serves me right.

As for other games, Pendragon was certainly the first as far as I know that had rules for the emotional and personal interaction through the traits and passions. I'd say that there is an argument that the current move for rules for social combat etc. can trace their line back to these.

The designers of Ars Magica, Fading Suns and Aria: Canticle Of The Monomyth all admitted to KAP's influence on their games. There are doubtless others.

Difficult to say. I always thought that certain aspects of Burning Wheel were strongly influenced by Pendragon; in fact, I was quite certain of it. However, recently I learned that the author of BW and his pals had started a Pendragon game and that it was completely new to them, apparently.

Tricky question.

The designer of the ARTESIA rpg lists Mr. Greg Stafford as a serious influence. So there is AT LEAST one. Also if u have ever played the west end games version of star wars ( a d6 version) im pretty sure that Mr. stafford had a lot to do with that as well :P

The WEG D6 system owes a lot to Ghostbusters which was designed by Chaosium. http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_1550.html

The makers of the French game "miles Christi", in which players are all knights Templar, told me their game was primarily inspired by Pendragon -- which we were playing at the time (about 15 years ago).
