A curious question arose the other night about Family History: when a number of years are lumped together with the same range of events, is the player supposed to roll once for that span of years, or once for each year in that span? Thoughts? Opinions? Jests? Declarations of blood-feud or crusade?

I've always rolled once for the span, as has everyone I've played with, but I also have house rules which award annual Glory to Dad and Grandpa for notable traits and that makes up for any shortfall (potentially in a big way; Grandpa gets the base scores, Dad gets those that the player has modified).

Roll once.
example: page 49, left column
three rolls
right column
4 rolls

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks, Greg.

Throws me a curve, but I'll find a workaround.

The purpose of those Family History Tables is NOT to provide a year-by-year
Their primary purpose is to establish how grandpa and dad reacted in famous events
and skim through the rest quickly

Yes, but organized region-by-region there's a lot of duplication. Not to mention the issue of page-flipping if creating a group of characters from widely-varying homelands.
