During the first charge of a battle, is it to be assumed that the enemy army is also charging unless defending a position or following orders to hold?
I've not played it this way so far, but in my last battle the players faced rebel knights as their first charge opponents and it struck me that, as knights, they would also be charging rather than just sitting there.

I could never make any sense out of the first charge rules. I have always just assumed that any enemy unit with a lance skill also charges in the first round.

I think that makes perfect sense. Something I'll apply from now on.

It has the extra benefit of making the first charge exiting. The players will know that they will face a though unit (15-20 on the table) and that they may very well have lances to face in the first round.

Yes, they are charging.
