View Full Version : A few questions about Greg Stafford Pendragon Publications

Dear all,
I could start by stating the obvious and say that I've been interested in Pendragon since the mid eighties and that the Great Pendragon Campaign is... well... great, but I won't and instead will jump right to the heart of the subject.  So here are a few questions about some Pendragon supplements.
1) Is there any chance to see Greg Stafford Pendragon Publications in PDF?  Don't get me wrong, I vastly prefer papers over electrons but in this case, the price tags of the books seems prohibitive for the page count.  I do not claim they are overcharged considering the publication model but the end result is that they are expensive.
2) Does the character creation system in the Book of Knights and Ladies cover about the same ground as previously published material (Saxons, Pagan Shores, Beyond the Wall, etc)?  My assumption is that it totally replaces (read updates and improves) the options seen in previous books except for Land of Giants and obviously adds a few more on top of it (like the Italians for example).
3) Speaking of the BoKaL, how does random determination of statistics work?  Looking at the preview, the random method doesn't seem to jive with the shaped method + cultural modifiers.  To put this another way, excluding modifiers, are statistics rolled like in 4th edition (2d6+6 for SIZ and 3d6 for the rest)?
4) Does the Book of Manors covers all there is in Lorly Domains?  Or maybe part of it will be covered in a possible Book of Bannerets?
5) Any idea what the future of KAP holds?  Any new publisher about to take over from WW?
I could now end this post by saying that the Pendragon Gamemasters Characters is one of the best game aids ever (all the stats, all the faces, all the heraldry) and could add that I am interested in both the Book of Battle and the Book of Banneret but since you will have none of it, I will again remain silent.  ;)

Greetings all,

Not at this time.

It is much more extensive than anything done before
3) Speaking of the BoKaL, how does random determination of statistics work? Looking at the preview, the random method doesn't seem to jive with the shaped method + cultural modifiers. Three methods exist to generate a character: standard, random and shaped
Men: 3d6+4 for SIZ
3d6+1 for the others
Women: 2d6+2 for SIZ and STR
3d6+1 for the DEX and CON
3d6+5 for APP
Then Cultural attributes are added.
4) Does the Book of Manors covers all there is in Lorly Domains? Or maybe part of it will be covered in a possible Book of Bannerets?
No. This is different, because it really focuses on one manor.
5) Any idea what the future of KAP holds? Any new publisher about to take over from WW?
Agonizingly, no.
I know my answers are terse. I invite anyone else to reply as well!
Thank you for the kind words. I wish I could be more helpful.

Gee, I wasn't expecting such a quick reply!
Not at this time.
Shoot! What is the quality of the printed books then (binding, cover, paper)?
It is much more extensive than anything done before
But no Scandinavian right?

Ok, it makes sense. Why the higher starting values in 5th compare to 4th?

But you are helpful. Keep new stuff coming!

Hmmm... thats annoying. WW is just keeping their lips shut, it seems. Just and FYI though, it looks like things might disappear electronically too. There seems to be a fire sale in the WW section at DrivethruRPG.

Sometimes we are just lucky! :)

Excellent, though others may offer their opinions. But stiff over, no see through on paper, etc.

Wrong.
Danes are one of the Continental Character types.

I had a really, really good reason...

Errr... right, the Danes. Good to know :)

You mean aside from making sure the random and shaped methods were balanced? Would you care to share? I suspect it might have something to do with making the PC (knights after all) superior to the mass. My guess is the stats of the mass would still average at about 10...
Cheers!

Darn! I might have to go over there and buy what I don't have yet. But I'd rather buy BoM and BoKaL first.
Thanks

i think the stats of the mas are 10, wxcept for other knihts, which start at like 15 for most weapon skills. The new book is very complete, and worth the $$$$$$$$. Greg will even SIGN IT FOR YOU!!!!!! If that is not worth it, what the heck is ;) But really player knights get very powerful very quickly and these books will help npc knights as well. They are also just really complete and really good works!!!! It is worth a look. Do it!!! I have bought multiple copies to give to friends.

Done. I have ordered both books and even downloaded a few PDFs from Drivethru. I am just awaiting the books now...
