Curious how people feel about two or three of the Cymric counties neighboring Salisbury duing this period of the GPC. Both from a relationship with Sarum standpoint as well as being an area that potentially could be used as a basis point for a group of PKs. Mainly regarding Silchester and Dorset, though Jagent and Somerset can also be of interest.
For example, each area has a different set of political issues during this period due to its neighbors.
Silchester
Intact political leadership (Ulfius)
Proximity to London
Proximity to active Saxon kingdoms (almost a buffer for Salisbury)
Given the first point I expect PKs from here seeking lands to be more active looking elsewhere, with Marlboro and Rydychan being relatively close.
Salisbury
Young lord with regent (the Countess Ellen situation)
Developing Saxon situation (Wessex)
Central Logres location (easy to adventure in any direction at GMs discretion
This area is obviously well documented since it's the default GPC area.
Dorset
Wide open political situation (As in not documented)*
Developing situation (Wessex to the east and Cornwall to the west)
Coastal county (I figure that shipborne raiding will be going on constantly in the Anarchy period)
I am actually considering putting together materials for an alternate start point for PKs using Dorset. Which is my ulterior motive for trying to trigger a discussion.
Jagent and Somerset are also potential areas. But I expect the political situation there will end up revolving around the Cornwall invasion/occupation and thus will tie PKs down to that area unless they choose some sort of exile.
* - From what I've found the only listing for the Dux of Dorset is Jonathel with 50 knights equites in 525. That leaves a lot of space for figuring out what happened in the previous thirty years since St Albans. Salisbury has the nice situation with Countess Ellen and raising the young Sir Robert. I'm hoping to come up with something different for Dorset, but still a situation where the PKs can play a larger part if they desire to.
