In BoM Pg50, there is this really scary table "TABLE 5: CONFLICT RESULTS TABLE".

When do I roll it? Every year just like Manorial Luck? Unlike "TABLE 6: PROPERTY DESTRUCTION" which Manorial Luck tell us when to use, there is no clue in how or when to use the Conflict Results Table, except for some "you should roll Conflict +X" in some parts of the book.

I cannot find my latest edition to check but isn't "you should roll Conflict +X" sufficient?

This only mention, in pg38 under "Banditry!", is only if have bandits in your lands, as "Banditry causes an additional +1d3 Conflict to the Fate of the Manor", but reading it I now believe what it's said is to just add those +1d3 to the manor Fate (instead rolling conflict)

So there, the question remains, when should I roll the Conflict table?

Thank you

I'll be using the Complete Landholding System in our next session soon, after running a few years of effectively Narrative Landholding, with a group of new players while they learnt the basics.

On reading through I found myself with a question on the Conflict table, and Lo! there already be a thread querying mine own same ponderings...

So,

B. Fortune

1. Manorial Luck, roll 1d6 each year, Benefit or Calamity is the result depending on the phase. Roll 1d20 on Benefit or Calamity Tables - check.

(Errata note, Table 4 subheading needs some rewording - "Roll 1d6, and find whether if there is a Benefit or a Calamity.", will repost in correct thread)

2. Fate

a.) Weather, Roll 3d6+5 - check.

b.) Conflict, Events may be dictated by the GPC; through play, from rival neighbours or from a Calamity

So firstly, dictated by the GPC, self-explanatory, it is noted which counties are affected in which years by Raiding, Pillaging, Plundering, etc. - check.

Secondly/Thirdly, through play/from rival neighbours, yep got that, basically, as fits/suits the GM's scenarios and such this can come in as a narrative to drive a particular story or what not - check.

Lastly, from a Calamity, OK, there is only 1 result on the Calamity table that gives a Bandit raid, and there is no result for Raiding, Pillaging, Plundering.

So then, why would you roll on Table 5: Conflict Results Table (which also contains in error I believe, the subtext from the Manorial Luck Table under the table title - "Roll 1d6, and find whether if there is a Benefit or a Calamity.")?

Possible Solution (?)

Moving back a step, should the Manorial Calamity Table instead have a result of 04 - Bandits/Raided/Pillaged/Plundered instead of just Bandit raid, which would then prompt a roll on the Conflict Table to determine what happened?

Otherwise for example, looking at the Anarchy period, if we simply roll every year on the Conflict table, that is only a 15% chance of a year off from bandits/raids, etc. Yes, we are in Anarchy, but this seems way over the top if you consider that this result could apply to every single manor in the land!

85% of every manor suffers from either banditry, raiding, pillaging or plundering. With the property destruction that then eventuates, I'd give the country 5 years and there would not be a village left standing!

GPC is based on the assumption that, as in the core book, PCs are from Salisbury.

We have been rolling every year, often with +1-3 added to the d6 from unpaid tribute.

Salisbury has burned and bled. The PKs have tried to build defenses and fight off the raiders and it has been tough but not insurmountable.

Money has definitely been tight though.

I think I'll dial it back after 510 to let them rebuild a bit and then crank it up again approaching badon.

Any update here? Excluding GPC and play triggered events just when should you roll on that table?

I don't believe its use is reserved purely for the 1 in 20 outcome on the bad luck table, but once a year does seem high - unless of course that's how it's meant to be.
