View Full Version : GPC Siege Rules
I know that there are some very interesting siege rules being bandied about on these forums but I was thinking of just using what's in the GPC as I think that's about the right level of focus that I want in my games.
However I was wondering about two things.
How long between siege rolls? I was thinking of maybe allowing a week between attempts? Does that seem reasonable and not making it too easy? I'm also thinking of popping in the "plague" rules from the Boy King where a roll of a 20 means that illness breaks out amongst the besiegers and they have to break the siege
What are "virtually no losses", "few losses", "low losses", "moderate losses", "heavy losses" and "crushing losses"? Something like the followers results table? So 0%, 10%, 50% and 75%?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

one per week will drag it out long enough

Nice

Probably 0, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% 25% is enough
Although you can surely make it bloodier if you wish
I'll be thinking ab9out this some more

I think I would prefer something like this: 0%, 2%, 5%, 10%, 20% and 30%. I was going to have crushing losses at 40%, but I think 30% is already pretty crushing, especially given that the castle remains untaken.
Hmm. Now that I look at the table, I am a bit surprised that there are no results where the attacker pays in blood but succeeds. The worst casualties are 'low' on a successful capture of the castle.

You might also like to have a look at this set of siege rules put together by Sir Larkins. They are more complex than those in the GPC, but similar to the Book of Battle rules. I've used them and found them quite good.

I had seen those rules but I "think" that I want something a little bit lighter as I don't want my game to focus on this too much.
In my last session the players didn't actually lay siege but just camped outside hurling insults, I'll see if they try it again next time and that will let me try the suggestions above out. If I do want something a bit crunchier then I'll give those rules a go.
Thanks for the responses.
