Just curious about the placement of the Wasteland and if everyone else uses it as published. My favorite area of Britain, geographically, is the Lake District. It is very reminiscent of my favorite area of the US, the Ozarks. Long before Pendragon hit the stands I tried running an Arthurian campaign of 1st edition AD&D (using the character stats from the D&DG and the board game Knights of Camelot) and based my pcs out of the kingdom of Rheged, located smack in the midst of the Lake District. This was in the days before the internet, and I spent a considerable amount of time and money trying to make this area come alive for my players. I purchased the Ordnance Survey maps of Roman Britain, every travel guide then in print, solicited travel brochures from towns and points of interest in the Lake District and put it all together in my own hand drawn maps of Rheged, Caerlyle and Penryth. I then proceeded to pen a 30+ page history of Rheged along with genealogies of and coats of arms for the royal and noble families.

As may be understood, I was loathe to discard all of this effort when I purchased the boxed first edition of Pendragon and, down through the years, I have kept my version of the Kingdom of Rheged firmly in what the published literature calls the Wasteland. I've moved the Wastland south of Rheged and had it verge into northern Wales.

It sounds like you've done some good work there. I'd stick with it.

I've not changed the wasteland from the published version but it hasn't featured heavily in games so far.

I was 'boring' and stuck with Salisbury as the starting position, but then again, I only started playing with the 4th Edition. (I have to admit to my shame that I had read Pendragon rulebook again and again, but only started GMing it at the university. So many Winter Phases wasted!)

I think Wales (Cambria) is an excellent location to use. Cambria (especially the northwestern part) is remote from Camelot, and nicely endowed with mystical connotations. Snowdon would make a very nice location for the Castle of Joy, in my opinion. ;) Besides, weren't Pellinore et co from that part of Britain anyway, and they are supposed to be relatives of the Fisher King? So you see, it all hangs together quite nicely. :)
