Speaking generally, has anyone gone to GenCon and done something Pendragon-related? It seems like one of the large stateside cons intended for tabletop gaming, and thus would make an ideal venue for such a thing. I went to my first GenCon last year and loved it. I'll certainly be back in 2013.

I'm especially curious if Greg Stafford himself (yourself, if you're reading this GS) ever makes the trip. It is one of my goals in life to play in at least one Pendragon session run by the man himself =)

I ran a Pendragon game last year at GenCon. It was enjoyable, but I was way too nervous. It was my first time running a con game and all I have are self-complaints, but the players didn't seem too disgusted with the game :) so I can hope they enjoyed themselves. I believe my Pendragon game was the only one listed, so I dont think anyone else was running one, other than private or pickup games.

GenCon is always fun though.

How long was it? Was it a one-day thing? Any chance you'll run one next year? You might get two more players in my wife and I.

That is very flattering
Thank you

I do not have plans to go to GenCon
I used to go very year, as well as to Origins
But I am kinda burned out on conventions
and even more on airplane travel, which just keeps getting worse and worse--are they actually shrinking the seats now?

When I do plan to go to one, I will post it here

It was a 4 hour game, and I am not sure that I will run one this year. It was a fun experience, but it took too much time from my regular gaming group to prepare and playtest.

Just a bit of warning, It sold out within 10 minutes of the event tickets going on sale and I also had to turn people away from the game, because several showed up hoping a registered player didn't show up. Be prepared to log in the second the events go on sale and buy your tickets if you see a Pendragon game listed!

Here was the description of the game:
http://gencon.highprogrammer.com/gencon-indy-2012.cgi/event/RPG1233096

Edited to add... If Greg ever ran a game I was close to, I would definitely move mountains to be a player in it :)

So far there's four (technically five as Suzanne is an honorary member) of us dedicated to running Pendragon at Conventions... It all started two years ago ( I think) in the run up to Continuum 2010, which really meant the lack of games at Continuum 2008. Do you want to private message me and I'll talk through trying to make Gencon 2013 a better and easier experience....? Our facebook group is currently closed membership - so will need email addresses - but I can discuss that with you offline. The web site - so much work, so little gaming time I'm afraid..... but we're working on it....

There was, once upon a time. A group of us from Michigan ran many a game. We also ran a lot of other Chaosium events. Times change, though.

I am impressed about the Glorantha kickstarter interest. Doesn't surprise me as I have player Runequest for many a year, but had to reduce the number of games I play/run as my budget shrank and my house got smaller. Pendragon is the one game I plan on keeping no matter what.

I am planning to run a Pendragon game this year at GenCon. I ran The One Ring last year and a Cthulhu Dark Ages the year before. I play in Headwounds regular game and the play test of his Pendragon game for last year. He is too modest. It was a great scenario and was well received at GenCon.

Well, my Gen Con game has been posted and here is the link to it in the events system. You have to be logged in to see it. It is Thursday night from 8pm until midnight.

https://www.gencon.com/events/43489

Last year my game filled up within 30 minutes of the system going live, so be sure and try to get the tickets asap on May 19th at noon ET.

If you are unable to get a ticket for the game and still want to play, show up around 15 minutes early to the table with generic tickets and you will be first in line to take the place of no-shows. I had 2 show up last year and 1 got in.

That said, I played in a Pendragon game the year prior to me running one and it was only half full and I had 2 friends with generics get in, so it is hard to tell what will happen on game registration day and then also on game night :)

post here if you have a question, or feel free to send a pm.

My friend, Templar72 has also submitted his game, but it isn't in the system yet. His game will be at the same time and day.

Both Pendragon games filled up immediately this year, which really sort of depressed me as I was hoping to get into one. The way GenCon handles its event registrations now is through a Wish List system, and I was literally hovering my mouse cursor over the "Submit Wish List for Processing" button at the very second it became enabled (Noon eastern time yesterday).

I was number 231 in the queue and I still lost out on my top 2 events, which was the Debt of Honor Pendragon game and a Star Wars RPG game. I could not possibly have planned or prepared any better than I did, but what can you do? There's clearly a lot more demand than supply for these things. I'm happy to know that, though I'd be happier still if I'd been able to join a game :)

I wonder if we could set up a Pendragon get-together during the con for us fans to hang out with Greg and other Pen players and share our tales of glory, triumph and despair. And also talk about the Pendragon RPG =P

Would that be of interest to anyone? Or is this already being planned?

Im considering duplicating my game for 8am Saturday morning. Would that be a time you and your wife could play?

SirBrastias

Awesome! I am a definite yes, and my wife will probably want to play as well. I'll check with her and reply here, but I am pretty sure she's a yes, too.

EDIT: Okay, yes, the wife would love to join in as well. She is fine to play a male knight, by the way.

I will submit the game this evening when I get off work. I will post here as soon as the game is approved. Since there will not be a big inrush of people registering, there should be enough notice to get a ticket before the game is even noticed.

If you feel like PMing me your email, I can email you when I get conformation.

Had the playtest of my scenario Monday night, and it went well. No rewrites needed, just a bit of polish... so I'm getting excited for Gen Con!

I sent the events submission people an email to inquire about whether any of the new Pendragon events will be approved, because my Saturday morning event is still waiting approval, and I noticed that AB+ has not had his submitted event listed yet either.

If the event is not approved, we may can get a private game ( one of my regular group may be interested in playing, he missed the playtest), but I am not completely sure I will be able to. When it comes to Gen Con, I am relying on a successful Love(Gaming) roll so I can crit my energetic rolls, I tend to burn the candle at both ends. I'll update if I get an email from Gen Con about the games.

I got a reply, and it was indicated that the game will likely be approved, so that's good news :)

I didn't check your game specifically, just noticed that no new Pendragon games were popping up. The email I got just said that since the events weren't very big, there shouldn't be a problem finding space for them, so I would guess that yours would be in the same boat.

I just checked on my game again. It is still listed under "Submitted for Review" on my GENCON "dashboard." I'll try to call next week to get someone to explain the status.

My friends,

With great sorrow, I must report that I will not be attending GenCon this year after all. :(
I fear I have some medical issues that have come up that are going to prevent me from going.
I am hoping/planning to pick this back up next year.
My apologies to those of you who were looking forward to being in a game GM'd by me.

I don't think Ill be at Gen Con next year, but hopefully Ill be in a Greg game one day in the future :) You games and companies have given me much happiness. :)

Finally got a response on the session I proposed to run.

The response was "Returned for Correction: Do not repeat RPG systems in the event title. The title should be the name of the adventure or module. Ideally, the description should give an idea of what to expect from the adventure. Use the long description if you need to go into more detail."

So I just renamed it from "Pendragon Introduction" to "Introduction and First Quest."

The proposed session would be on Thursday at 2PM.

Finally, with three days left, my Pendragon event at GENCON is approved and ready for players to sign up.

On the positive side, it appears to be near the other Pendragon sessions later that evening, based on the location code.

I didn't check until today, but I replied.

My session went better than expected. Because of the very late approval of my session, it didn't appear for online signups until right before GENCON when most people who would sign up in advance had already done so, but it wasn't in the printed program either. I didn't expect anyone to show up. I somehow got two players anyway. They found it browsing the online listing from the hotel the night before.

They were both brand new to Pendragon, but really liked it. Previously they had only played D&D. They especially liked the graceful simplicity of the rules, the variety of personality aspects vs "alignment," and the additional effects in combat from knockdowns and major wounds. They didn't get a chance to see the aspects of long-term play, of course. I'm planning to run Pendragon again soon for my hometown group, so it gave me some practice. I'm glad I did it, even though I wasn't able to play in Greg's game.

Gen Con was also good for Templar72 and myself. We both had a lot of fun running our games and introduced the game to a few people who have never played Pendragon before.

I had hoped to post earlier and more info than I am now, but work has piled up and school has started for the kids. I hope to post more soon.

I submitted a Pendragon event a few months ago, but it is still pending approval for some reason.

It was originally supposed to be at 6pm on Thursday. After the event listing went live (without my event), I noticed that the "Intro to Glorantha" seminar is also scheduled for 6pm, and I can't miss that, so I edited my still-pending-approval Pendragon session to start at 7pm. Then I saw the "Mythology in Roleplaying" seminar at 7pm that also features Greg Stafford and Jeff Richard. So I bumped my Pendragon session to 8pm.

I'll email GENCON to ask why it's still in limbo.
