The book of knights and ladies specifies that women start with a Valorous of -1d6+3.
If my recollection of the order you carry out operations in is correct, this would make it -1d6 then +3, so an even spread of +2 to -3. However, a player of mine was wondering if it was intended to be -(1d6+3) which is of course quite different!
I can't find anyone else asking the question so I'm assuming, like good nerds, we've assumed the literal interpretation but I am curious. :-)

This is the correct interpretation, resulting in a range from -3 to 2.
This, of course, applies only to the randomly determined characters.

Thanks for clarifying the values: was pretty sure this was right but a player was less sure, and obviously it makes a big (6 point) difference.
However, I'm confused by your line of only affecting randomly determined characters. I checked last night and the BoK&L specifies the lady modifier alongside the regional modifiers, under a heading of "Standard & Random Characters" - i.e. it affects everyone apart from shaped.
Is this a mis-recollection on your part or an error in the book?
