Hi all.

Found an (at least for me) interesting kickstarter. Could be something for other pendragon gm's as well?

I heard good things about this as well:

Also evernote.

Personally I use Dropbox and a good thick old-fashioned binder. But I know I need to upgrade.

I use Evernote to keep track of everything. I have a Pendragon folder containing seperate notes on each county and the knights they have. Only the knights the players are aware of and/or seen though.

That Realm Works software has intrigued me though. It would seem to make things a lot easier so I may have to back it.

Does look interesting - I've just backed a number of other projects recently (including Greg's other love, The Guide to Glorantha) and so am not sure I can justify it, but I may well give in in the end...

Got over 400 Pendragon notes in Evernote — and I'm just getting started. Love it.

If fact, I've been thinking of a way to use it as a publishing model...

I backed it in the end. Should be released in July and I'm looking forward to getting it working for Pendragon.

Yeah, definitely. I'm hoping we can create some sort of template and then maybe offer it out. Structure it around the GPC. Don't know, I'm just spit balling here.

Absolutely. I shall want to create entries for major NPCs including those from the GPC characters file that was put out. It would seem daft for all of us using it to have to do that. I'm sure there will be other such aids that can be integrated too - I'm thinking along the lines of adding the various armies from the Book of Battle to speed up combat etc. It would be quite laborious for just one to put all the info in, but if a number of us worked on it, I'm sure we could speed things along.

Exactly. Maybe we can put our heads together so we don't double up on stuff. Hopefully we can swap parts of it across to each other. Really looking forward to seeing it now and having a play.

Did any of you that backed this program utilize it with Pendragon? I picked it up a few days ago when it was FINALLY released, now I'm getting familiarized and gathering ideas for a GPC realm. I'm curious to see what a fleshed out Pendragon realm looks like if anyone is willing to post screenshots.

I have been working with this for some time now (I am one of its beta testers).
Currently the best thing for me is that I am able to track a lot of NPCs through it. I have over 400 NPCs in it.
I am still building the rest like information about the manors, battles and groups and such.

I am very pleased about the program as it is really a help. There had been some difficulties during development and some larger changes that I still have to deal with (as rearrangement of the data), but those were the leftover of the beta test.

I have added some screenshots.

Thanks for the screens Cornelius.

400 NPC's must have been quite a task, and that's after you had to modify the categories, tags and mechanics to suit your needs. I'm working out my structure now, the more in-depth I get when entering my test items, the more I lean toward holding off on the campaign input and just start with the basic Pendragon game logic. That way I'm not entering basic information on the fly and having to go back and update existing entries.

So far I like the potential of the program, even if it's a little rough around the edges at the moment.

I got it as part of the Kickstarter, but safely haven't had much time yet to play around with it. I can certainly see that if you were running the GPC on a regular basis that this would be invaluable. Wish I had it when we started out 6 years ago in our slow moving epic campaign....

This is awesome... I'm picking it up this weekend. I've been fumbling around with genealogy programs and visio to map all the relationships for two possible campaigns (Harn Kaldoric Succession Crisis and the GPC). This looks like the ticket!

Is there a way to share templates? It sounds like you've done a lot of the behind the scenes work and I'd love to be able to steal it ;-)

I picked this up and am pretty blown away... Amazing. I also answered my question above and we can't until they roll out the Cloud.

BUT... I think coming up with a standard format, ahead of the mob, would go a long way to making Pendragon useable on it in the future.

1. CATEGORIES
-It seems to make a specific Pendragon-type character sheet, you need to go into Categories and Remove Protections to start adding your own/new Snippets. From this post, it seems that shouldn't be a problem as long as you simply HIDE and turn off AUTO ADD for those parts you don't need.
http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=48756

My questions comes in two parts:

a) If I remove Protection on "Pendragon Campaign" (my Realm), does that remove protection on any future Realms that I create?
b) Does anyone have a better way of explaining how to build a custom Individual template without breaking Realmworks or doing something really, really bad.

a) When I created a second realm it reset back to the default settings. Nothing I created or modified ported over, so I think any new realm is safe from potential mistakes.

b) Try creating a duplicate copy of the category you wish to change, hide the original(if needed), and then remove protection from duplicate to modify. You can also do a manual backup right before you try something that you are unsure of the outcome.

I'm using Evernote to organize my campaign, and, with over 800 notes and counting, I'm loving it. What does this bring to the table that's unique to an RPG that Evernote can't handle? I'm off to visit the site, but would love to get y'all's take on it.

Not familiar with Evernote but things I find excellent...

-Instant meta-linking
-Smart maps (think google maps with flags and info)
-Relationship charts/attitude charts
-Plotting/Storyboards with linking
-Easy to modify

Only had it two days but I am seriously impressed. It has a number of excellent features all in one place. I've found these things here and there (Scribd, Excel, Metacreator) but not all of them in one place.

ISSUES
-No print option yet (FAQ says its on the way)
-Designed around a cloud server so not sure what that's going to do when things are rolled out.
-You can get seriously wrapped up in creating the perfect template. I'm trying to chill my OCD and just get things rolling!

I've got it but haven't had the time to give it much attention yet. For me there are two reasons for getting it. Firstly managing a campaign of the scale of the GPC it is useful to keep track of all the events and people etc. The autolinking means it is easy to refer to them once you get going, rather than constant page shuffling. The other bonus is the player view - as GM you can mark everything item of information once the players know it/met it/been there etc. I can never remember what I've told them and when it was! This should be highly valuable. The cloud syncing if you subscribe will allow players to access the information you have revealed this way from their devices, but only that information. If I recall correctly there is also view option on the GM's machine to show a players version on that which you can show if you haven't subscribed to the cloud option.

Thanks for the answers above. I was terrified of doing anything because the user guide keeps saying to be careful of “breaking things.” Yikes!

My OCD kicked in hard with this thing last night. I learned a few things…

First, being slightly detail obsessed, I spent time mapping out the perfect Individual sheet, adding categories and sections and stuff. I realized I spent a few hours and had entered no information. The problem is that once you create an Individual, you can’t go back and edit the basic template for future individuals. So I plotted out information I needed and stuff like that… kept changing my mind. A good learning process but not very effective.

Then I realized that the real power was the linking of information and the ability to store it all. You really only need to perfect the top Category (Overview) so that at a glance you can see the main information. This means adding Manor, Social Class, Liege Lord etc.

But the system allows you to upload character sheets, pdfs, pictures, spreadsheets etc.

THERE IS NO NEED TO REBUILD THE CHARACTER SHEET.

I’m not going to worry about Virtues, Skills, Stats etc. Maybe a snippet for high level Virtues that will just be filled in via text but really all I want is the story information to link!

Second, if us Pendragon folks could come up with a standard template for Individual, Location, Organization and such it would be really helpful when things do go live.

Third, there is no Print option. But the FAQ indicates that due to “overwhelming response” it is top on their list of things to do.

Fourth, messing with the various Snippets for Tags and Domains is circular. I created a number of problems for myself and think that (as noted above) a Basic Overview section with a few Pendragon specific Tag/Domains is the way to go.

Really the power of RW is in the linking… it allows you to see all of the connections. It allows you to add simple text snippets that will automatically link with all other shared terms, names, objects. It does this automatically and saves you a significant amount of time from jumping through Excel and Word sheets or Genealogy programs.

The map entries, smart pictures and genealogy/relationship mapping is huge and should be the best part of it.

Last… I don’t plan on using it for in-game sharing. It’s more of a database for my own purposes so the need to create the perfect “Individual” template is less than for someone who plans on sharing it with others.

I also learned that creating new Domains is not necessary in most cases. There are dozens of Domains that are empty but created and just awaiting Tags. Best to use what is already in there.

Question for Cornelius...

It looks you changed the icon for individuals (knights)... how did you do that?

Cornelius
04-05-2014, 09:36 AM
Since I have been working on it since the kickstarter, I had to deal with changes to the program as well as my own changing ideas on how to handle things.
So my choices are probably not the choices I would make now.

As for changing the catagory templates. You can change them, but this does not change the topics you already entered. So you will have to go back to the topics and chanfe them to your new format.

As for the individual template. I created 2. One for males and one for females. Each I gave a different icon. That way I can quickly see if a person is male or female. You can change the icons in the manage category tab. I think it is in the top row. As I am currently not working on my computer. I will get back to this later.

Sorry, I had a late veg session on this last night and I did figure out how to do it. I went the same route as you... Knight/Noble and Lady templates. I'll post what I have later. I'm working on Manor at the moment.

It looks like you grouped your people under Family names. Did that cause any problems when you used Salisbury since it can be Linked to so many different things? In my GPC, I designed a few prominent families so am thinking of grouping them the same way but was concerned when the last name is often the place name. Curious how the Link Content automation works that...
----------
I noticed you changed the Calendar dates to seasons. Which is what I'd like to do... My version doesn't have that implemented yet, did you hack that?

Cornelius

About family names:
I used this as a way to separate the various people and it is easier to find them back.
When Realmworks finds links he gives you various options. If for instance I have a Robert Salisbury in a snippet text it will give me several choices. The first is Robert Salisbury the individual entry. But it also gives me the option to link Salisbury to the area Salisbury.
Tip: I use the prefix/suffix option to distinguish between people with the same name. That way every entry of Robert Salisbury gives me the option to link it to Robert Salisbury I as well as Robert Salisbury II. If you do not do it like this it will not create a automated link.

About the calendar:
That is a beta-test leftover. Last year they tried to have custom calendars, but the feature was dropped due to its clunkiness. As far as I know it is still on the to do list. I created this one as I did not needed to have everything linked to a specific date.

I added a nifty new thing... my templates are getting cluttered but it's still cool.

I uploaded Domesday Tool family trees into the Topics as HTML. You can see the tree and read the notes for each entry. :)

Hi to all,

let me please first introduce me: My name is Robin, I´m from Germany and a gamer for the last 20+ years, gaming KAP around 10 years ago for the last time.

But as I´m just back from my vacations in lovely Kent (and visiting many of those beautiful medieval castles over ther), I´m right back on track :-)

As I use Realm Works for my homebrewed campaign - an adaption of the graphic novel "The third testament" to the seven years war - I wondered, if there is any content for RW for KAP...and so, I came across this thread.

Although this thread is quite a bit older I would like to ask if there is any chance to get my fingers on any user made content for RW? Are there any ressources to be found or to be shared?

Regards and thanks in advance,
Robin

Hi Robin,

Unfortunately the feature to share realms in realmworks is still being built. So unfortunately I cannot give you any user made content. What I can offer is a look into my realm as a player. DM me your username in Realmworks and I will send you an invite to my pendragon campaign.

Currently I use it mainly to keep track of a lot of NPCs. But I have begun entering other information as well. So it is still a work in progress.
