Putting this here because it is a Book of Battle question.

My players and I are newbies when it comes to the Book of Battle, so we were confused by the maneuver choices list that includes a category called "Partial Win". I couldn't find a rule for partial wins in the rulebook; it seemed to be that every opposed resolution results in a winner and loser, two losers or tie.

The closest analogue I could find (and the table ruling we decided to go with) was the partial success rule. However, that's not a win at all, it's a loss, so that still doens't feel right to me.

If our guess was right, then I would suggest replacing the term "Partial Win" with "Partial Success".

If there IS such a thing as a partial win, can someone please explain to me what that is and where the rule is for it? I cannot find to locate it.

I realize it's semantics and most players probably understand this, but a consistency in the terminology would be helpful in making things clear.

Thanks!

You are correct, sir. A "Partial Win" should be labeled "Partial Success," meaning your Unit Commander makes his Battle Roll, but the Unit Intensity also makes it's roll — and the result is higher that the Unit Commander's Battle Roll result.

I'm going to move this to the Book of Battle II Errata forum so we can capture it for the first revision of the file.

Thanks,

T.
