Prince Valiant: The Storytelling Game [Paperback]
Greg Stafford (Author), Harold Foster (Illustrator)

I know this has nothing to do with king Arthur Pendragon but wanted Greg to know I found a blast from the past from among my Chaosium; 1st edition (June 1989) This was the month I grauduated high school and my mom bought this for me as a gift. Shes gone now but I still have the book, I will treasure this gift as i had tons of fun with it and wanted to say thank you Greg for writing it I have had hours of enjoyment playing it. and perhaps we can start a non KAP Discussion forum about other blasts from the past just an idea. I have a lot of the first run books Chaosium published in 1989 and foreword.

the other cool thing is where i found it among dads comic strip books he made from Prince Valiant, 1937 to 1948 complete run dad said they were his his mom made them for him when they first came out wow I forgot I had these packed away. It was carried in the Sunday funnies I am sure i will find the rest some where among old papers. I know in later years when i was growing up Grandma got me started on scrap book making the rest and i know their somewhere here just got to find them.

Prince Valiant had a big influence on KAP
To make the game I was honored to sit down at a gent's complete collection of original pages for the whole Hal Foster series
It took me days to read it
At one point I read a page and remembered the moment that I had originally read it and thought to myself, "I like this."
Since the game was done under license from its license holder, there is no chance to reprint it.

Pity I didn't order a copy from Chaosium back when it was in print. I thought of it at the time (since I was a big fan of the strip), but never got around to it. Lost opportunities - sigh....

You still can get copies of it from 2nd hand. I did so one and a half year ago via ebay. It inspired me to go for KAP. I do frequently one-shots with Prince Valiant (in a more idealistic style) and I run the GPC on a weekly basis. This is my way of playing with different facettes on similiar topics.

But I must confess a house rule to my Valiant sessions. Instead of just giving the players their coins for every trait an equipment for a roll, I require them to describe. All things they include in the descripion of their action will reward them the suiting coins. That transfers the decition, if a trait or equipment is in use from my GMs hands to theirs. And that enhances their drive to greate descriptions.
Its a method, often found in more modern narative-style RPGs and it works very well with PV although its not explicit in the rules.

I checked Amazon - six new for sale and 11 used. Quite a lot for such an old game. they also have the Prince Valiant comics released as books.

Great game and quite ahead of its time. It reads a lot like more recent indie games (though somehow awesomer :D)

Looking forward to using it to see if my nephew and godson are inclined to some gaming in a few years time.

The number is probably due to the fact that we (Chaosium) had to sell off the remaining stock when the license ran out.

That's who it was made for: the newbies
Good luck!!
