Hello,

is there any way to get the map from First Edition in a more useful format than the one in the pdf from drivethru? I tried to piece it together, but the scan is missing some parts around the edges.

At first, I also tried to piece the Map from the 2 pages together. But then I found this site (http://www.kap5.net/gallery/7988120_4gR9t) with its very great and detailed Maps. Maybe that helps your needs.

These are nice maps, just not the one I'm looking for.. :(

Maybe I find one on eBay, but it's a shame that the map in the pdf from drivethru is in such irregular cuts.

Nocturnal will be making some real kickass map in the future
But, one thing at a time
No actual idea or plan when they will be available

Woooo! Nice to know.

Will the Ancient Airstrips be denoted on any of these maps? ;-)

That's nice. But I guess that means a kickass new map and not a kickass new scan of the first edition map. I don't really need kickass.. I just need a decent rescan with all the missing pieces of the old map. To illustrate my point: I reconstructed the map from the pdf and filled the gaps with green colour:

I guess there won't be a fix for the broken map?

I'd fix it for you if I could, brother, but for that I'd need the original artwork or at least one of the original pull-out maps, neither of which I have. You're talking about a product that's 30+ years old. If any one wants to mail me their copy, send me a PM and we'll make arrangements.

I know. I would scan it myself if I still had my old map or if there would be a copy of the boxed set on ebay a little less pricy...

But there should still be the map that was used to produce the scan from the pdf?

My friend, that was made in the days of tape and scissors
The original is a series of tissue-thin overlays
The "air strip" referred to above was a piece of scotch tape inadvertently left on one of the layers; it got processed during the making of the separate color printing plates and wasn't discovered until I saw it on the press. The printer offered to stop the press and redo it, but it would have been an unacceptable cost at that time.

Mea culpa. My memory seems to be playing tricks with me. I can't remember the old map having any faults but it is long lost and I may have mixed it up with a map from another edition.

And the original was beautiful! Have you been able to preserve it Greg?

Possibly
It might be stashed away in my archives
but probably not
That stuff is so old that the ruboff letter peel off, etc.

With great thanks to Malcolm Wolter for doing the hard work, and Ben Quant for posting it
the map is now available

without the airfield!

Note, however--the names of the forests have shifted around somewhat

Quick warning - it's very large and so you might want to right click and save as if using Greg's link above, rather than left clicking and opening in a browser.

What a great scan of the map! Many thanks to you Sir Greg and to the good Sirs Malcolm and Ben! I will carry this at once to the gaming table..

We'd be remiss if we didn't thank Sir Clifford Frank most of all. He's the one that actually scanned the old relic and offered it for our archive. I just dusted it off a bit.
