Hi all,

I'm the editor for a free sci-fi fanzine and now want to produce an Arthurian fanzine on the same basis (free to download, non-commercial, supported by donated submissions).

'Dragons of Britain' will be a 64 page fanzine covering all aspects of Arthurian gaming and history but mainly supporting Greg Stafford's 'King Arthur Pendragon' and Wordplay Games' 'Age of Arthur'.

We hope to have scenarios, articles, art, fiction, and news on all things Arthurian.... but we can't do it without your help.

I need submissions for the magazine to happen. As the magazine is non-commercial in anyway, it'll be free, only credit and a link back is available. The work submitted must have not appeared in any other book.

If you wish to submit to the fanzine then please e-mail me here: steffworthington[at]hotmail[dot]com with your idea.

You can read more, and see the prospective first cover, here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/britishdragons/

Thanks for your time

Sir Dom

Steff! I'm a big fan of your Cthulhu-related work.
I'm PhoneCallOfCthulhu over on YSDC.

I'm sure your arthurian magazine will be a big hit.

Thanks Sir Dom!

Hi everyone, I'm honoured to announce that Greg Stafford (the creator of King Arthur Pendragon & Glorantha) has said yes to an interview in the first issue of 'Dragons of Britain'. I'm currently crowdsourcing questions so if there's anything you've always wanted to ask Greg please PM me or send to: steffworthington[at]hotmail[dot]com with 'gloranthadaddy' in the subject line

I've liked the work you've done on Colonial Times (2300AD fanzine - definitely worth a look if you like that milieu), so I'll be very interested to see what you put together for Dragons of Britain.

Very nice, Steff, good work!

I did notice a couple of minor typos, not sure if it is easy for you to correct. Not that they are that important for the understanding of the text and I include them here just for completeness:

p. 51: Extra paragraph shift in the middle of paragraph, between "modern day" and "Devon".

p. 55: "ln 1966 1 experienced a literary vision of Gloranmtha" - should be 'Glorantha'

p 56 and 57: "Lhankmar" - should be 'Lankhmar'

A slightly bigger issue is that the adventure "Hammer to Fall" seems to be missing one page between pages 26 and 27. Or maybe it is just missing a bit less. In any case, it seems to jump from Edgith's band to the end of Helig's statblock, with the start of Helig's statblock missing. Helig's stats deleted by mistake?

Also, white text on white snowy background was not the best choice in Hammer to Fall titleblock, clarity-wise. Took me a moment to realize that it was an Age of Arthur -adventure, when the stat blocks were so odd. :)

GM-wise, the Birthday Hunt is nice, except for the 'Bad End', which is a bit too harsh for my taste. Of course, it is appropriate for the folk tales, but I wouldn't pull something like that off without discussing it first with my players, if they are fine with it. YPMV.

I especially enjoyed Ganieda with all her plot-hooks and the Cameliard campaign suggestion. Not sure that I will use her in our campaigns, but it was still a nice read. :)

In any case, thanks for the fanzine! It was a nice read.

Best wishes,
Morien

I guess that's pretty much what happens with most adventure supplements for KAP, both the free stuff on the internets and the old supplements, especially since the GPC came out. But it's great to have more adventures coming out for KAP and a high-quality dedicated magazine (and a free one at that!). The KAP adventure is pretty nice, too. IMHO, it's better than most of the stuff that came out in Tales of Chivalry & Romance and Tales of Magic & Miracles, which were quite dissapointing, at least for me.

No need for apologies! Instead, you and all the contributors have my thanks for putting this together. :)

(The blue text on Hammer to Fall title made it easier to read this time, too. :) )

Is there a new issue being planned and if so, do you have any timetable for it?

Looks great! Thanks so much for this valuable contribution to the PENDRAGON community. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I've had my head down of late working on some of my own Pendragony goodness. Some really cool stuff cooking at Nocturnal! I'll be sharing more, soonish...

Best,

Ddiolch yn fawr, Taliesin!
Thank you all. I hope to make this a long running magazine, along with my 2300AD magazine Colonial Times, so the next issue is planned for release on March 1st (so deadline for submissions is Feb 1st). Providing there are enough submissions. If you have one, then please send the PROPOSAL FIRST to steffworthington@hotmail.com

If your bandwidth worries you, you might want to try slimming down the file a bit. That PDF is about 80 MB – that’s quite a bit. (In fact, it’s so big my not-quite-up-to-date machine takes 80+ seconds to load and display a single page …)

I just finished reading the first issue and have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! Both adventures -Birthday Hunt & Hammer to Fall -were great and inspiring. Hammer to fall made me curious about Age of Arthur, so I went and picked it up at Drive Thru RPG.

The Layout and artwork was attractive and have me looking forward to the next issue. The "gossip corner" idea is fantastic as these types of things have a way of becoming great adventure seeds.

The interview with Greg was great as he's always been one of my personal favourites.

I particularly loved the write-up of Ganieda as I had not heard of her before. I'll definitely be using her in adventures for my own group!

Paul did a very good job on his adventure and essay on the Dark Ages. I'm really enjoying how this fanzine moves between RPG systems, adventures as well as working in some real scholastic work on the period.

Bravo!

As the author of the piece of Ganieda, i'm very chuffed to read people speak highly of it. :-) I was worried the character would be too C-list and the adventure-lets would be a bit too bare bones for there to be any use in them.

Quite the opposite, GQuail. It's an interesting character and definitely worth look for future incorporation into a campaign. As for the story seeds, there's quite a bunch of interesting stuff in there. Excellent work!

Hi all, I'm still needing content for issue #2 of The Dragons of Britain. Articles on weapons, regions, NPCs, or anything else. If you'd like to submit something then please send it to steffworthington[at]hotmail[dot]com with 'DOB' in the subject line.

We can only produce The Dragons of Britain with the help of the community.

Thanks!

I'm happy to have inspired your use of Ganieda and King Leodegrance - I think she's an ideal character to use in that part of the campaign, since Merlin seems otherwise engaged most of the time in Logres. Good stuff. ;)

The real work was done by Paul Mitchener, David Elrick, Christopher Payne, and others. I couldn't have done it without their submissions.

Did I mention I needed submissions? ;)

Hopefully next issue I'll be able to add some scholarly work from the amazing Genevieve Fournier too!

Couple of notes on the Maiden's Oath adventure:

1. The Earl is Robert, not his father Roderick (who perishes 495).

2. This is more of a quibble regarding individual campaign settings: It is not a given that female knights are unheard of in any individual campaign, but I do recognize that this is the default setting in Pendragon. Just something that popped up while I was reading the adventure, given that our campaigns have had and do have female knights. I do admit that it is faithful to the material, with the lady knight becoming a good little submissive ward in the end, as a proper lady should in the medieval romances. And no doubt a GM who has made the shift to allow female knights will be able to adjust the adventure accordingly.

Hi Morien,

You are right of course! I will correct the name and place an editor's not re: female knights in the sidebar. The actual scenario and it's treatment of Lady Elianor will stand (as the issue is to do with setting). Thanks for bringing these to my attention and a new version will be up soon. :)

By the way, David Larkins, who has an article in this issue about running the Pendragon Campaign, has a website where he has year-by-year entries of his last campaign (aka Solo Pendragon Campaign), that he ran with his wife as the single player. I mention this because his campaign report is by far the best I've ever read. Well written, excelent gamemastering, awesome character building, etc. I TOTALY recomend that you read the whole stuff (it's not complete yet, though, but it goes up to year 541 at the moment). The whole thing is so readable that people have been asking to get a PDF/print-on-demand version of the whole thing when David finaly writes the rest of the sessions. It's THAT good.

Here is the link: http://shirosrpg.blogspot.fi/

Just click "The Solo GPC" in the header and you'll end up in the place where the whole stuff is listed year by year.

Going through the second issue and I really like it.
When browsing the file, the flow and speed are much better now and I would say sufficient for a PDF with that much artwork and background images.

If there is only one thing that I don't agree with the authors is that when you have a big battle scene in Pendragon you MUST play "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" from the Carmina Burana opera ;)
It might be cliche but it gets everyone in the mood. You can imagine the horses breathing in anticipation before charging when that's playing along.

Ha! While it was my intention for GMs not to use it (I wrote that page) as it was cliche, as SOON as I started reading your statement and the title it jumped like an Arthurian earwyrm into my head. Bravo sir!

Hi everyone. Bad news, I'm afraid.

Dragons of Britain is going to go and find a hill to go and sleep under until it finds enough submitted material to continue. There simply hasn't been enough material to keep it going. I wish it wasn't the case but I can't provide all the content for it as I have my map making business to consider.

I'd sincerely like to thank Dave Elrick, Paul Mitchener, and Chris Payne for their help in producing DoB and, in fact, ALL of those who submitted to make DoB happen. I couldnt have done it without you.

Thanks again.
