All—

We've been relatively quiet lately and so I thought I'd take a moment to update you all on what's going on at Nocturnal.

The bad news is, the BOOK OF THE WARLORD is not ready. Truth be told, we've not even begun production on the book in earnest. We had hoped to deliver it by Christmas, but that projection was a bit ambitious.

The good news is — and I think this is very good news — the cause for the delay is because we've had our heads down working very hard on something we're calling THE GREAT PENDRAGON MAP. In a nutshell, this is an enormous, high-res map of post-Roman Britain that will be the canonical reference for all KING ARTHUR PENDRAGON designers going forward. The map in it's current incarnation is for the design team's eyes only, but in the future it will inform every map that's made for the game so that we can make a more consistent world. Although this is an enormous task, taking many months (and one that will perhaps never truly be finished) it should yield huge dividends down the road — not the least of which is faster production on all future books because we won't creating each map anew from scratch (and all the research that entails) and will instead be able to simply "zoom in" on an area of THE GREAT PENDRAGON MAP, add additional details as needed, and render the new production map. All the basic geography, political boundaries, settlements, important sites, etc., etc., will already be defined and consistent no matter where you choose to take a "snapshot". Awesome stuff.

This is a gigantic project in its own right, and the research that's gone into it is really top-notch; the detail nothing short of amazing. It reflects decades of Greg's work and he's overseeing every step of the process. If you can't tell, we're all very excited about it. The map could be eventually rendered as a poster or large canvas print, as could any region, so — lot's of interesting possibilities for the future of the game. It could well provide the backbone of THE GREAT PENDRAGON ATLAS, or GAZETEER, someday as well. The MAP will basically provide the underpinning of all things PENDRAGONY going forward.

So, there we are. The next book, WARLORDS, will be using THE GREAT PENDRAGON MAP to inform all of it's many maps. Hence the delay. Our new estimate for WARLORDS delivery is sometime in Q1 2014. So we're a few months off yet. But it's going to be a great one! Thanks in advance for your patience and continued support. We're energized and committed as ever to bringing you high-quality gaming material that's second to none in breadth and depth and we couldn't do it without you.

Best,

T.

The Map has allowed your to travel back in time?! If I go to my shelf, Warlord will be there now?! ;)

D'oh! Stupid computer.

Sorry, I've amended the post. 2014.

Sounds very cool. But what is still unclear to me is whether the map becomes available to us. As a GM I am very interested in the result.

Cornelius, the map in it's current form is not a production map suitable for publication. However, it is the kitchen-sink, canonical reference that the designers and authors will use going forward to inform the maps for their books. Maps will be able to be rendered and produced in different styles according to the needs of the author and constraints of various media, but always with THE GREAT PENDRAGON MAP as the starting place. Eventually, we'll be able to refine the presentation enough to warrant publication in some form, TBD. But for now it's for our team's reference. But you'll be seeing the results of it soon enough — in the WARLORDS book for starters.

That sounds really cool and makes a lot of sense. I would love to see a Pendragon Atlas.

All the best with Warlord. I look forward to reading it when it's finished.

We are working on it, believe me!
If fact, if someone wants to help me out by doing a whole bunch of repetitive computer labor, it will be done even faster!
