So we played through this particular adventure last weekend. Rather than using the skirmish rules, I ran it as a series of normal melees. At the two Battles, the total number of enemies that need to be defeated is 2 times the number of PKs, but since there are other knights and soldiers and sailors on their ship, the Saxons cannot gang up on them. Instead, the PKs fight 1-on-1, the next enemy pushing forward when there is room to fight, until 'the quota' is reached; the Saxon morale breaks and the Saxons retreat/flee. Since the Britons are victorious, unconscious PKs will get rescued, although they might lose some easily snatched valuables if the Saxons overrun their ship.

1d6+mod Random Saxon enemy
1 Old fisherman: Oar-10 (2d6), HP 16 (SIZ 8, CON 8, DEX 6 ), Armor 0, Glory 1.
2 Young boy: Oar-6 (2d6), HP 16 (SIZ 6, CON 10, DEX 12 ), Armor 0, Glory 0 and a Cruel check if you kill the boy. Merciful check if you take care to not harm the boy.
3 Beardless youth: Oar-8 (3d6), HP 20 (SIZ 10, CON 10, DEX 9 ), Armor 0, Glory 2.
4-5 Fisherman: Oar-8 (4d6), HP 24 (SIZ 14, CON 10, DEX 8 ), Armor 0, Glory 5.
6-8 Spearman: Spear-12 (5d6), HP 28 (SIZ 16, CON 12, DEX 8 ), Armor 4+6, 1d6 denarii in loot, ransom £0.5, Glory 25.
9-10 Axeman: Axe-14 (5d6+1d6 vs shield), HP 28 (SIZ 16, CON 12, DEX 8 ), Armor 4+6, 1d6 denarii in loot, ransom £1, Glory 35.
11 Berserker: Great Axe 14+1d6 (8d6+1d6 vs shield), HP 34 (SIZ 18, CON 16, DEX 8 ), Armor 6, 2 loot rolls, ransom £3, Glory 100.
12 Chieftain (Thegn): Axe 14+1d6 (6d6+1d6 vs shield), HP 32 (SIZ 17, CON 15, DEX 8 ), Armor 8+6, 3 loot rolls + armor worth £1, ransom £12, Glory 100.

Modifiers: Pevensey +0, Dover +2, Battle of the Colne +6, Battle of the Wash +6.
Loot rolls: Use Jacob Klunder's Loot table (www.gspendragon.com/loot.html), livestock & cart results mean no transportable loot.
Ransom: The captives need to be relatively healthy to survive to be ransomed. Also, it takes time & effort to arrange the ransom. After each of the two battles, Prince Madoc offers to buy the captives at 50% ransom, cash in hand right now. Smart PKs take the prince up on his offer and let him deal with the arrangements, rather than snub the Prince by refusing his generous offer.
