Hi!
My campaign is in the Anarchy Phase and several saxon kings demand tribute.
In the Book of the Estate tribute in not mentioned (or have I misunderstood anything?). I like the tribute-idea too much to give it up.
How do you handle this?

The BoE way (I think):
Get the tribute from the peasants.
(If they complain, send the complainers as slaves to the Saxons as part of the tribute.)
The 'lets make the PKs feel a pinch' way:
For every Tribute, the PK will drop one level in Maintenance. So, a £10 estate knight will roll as Poor, and larger estates as Normal instead of Rich. They can avoid this drop if they pay £3 / tribute from their treasury.

Using BotE, I would change the £3 to £5, to match 50% of your manor's value (as one manor is now worth £10, not £6).
The players will somehow have to come up with that money!
BotE has a nice overview on p48 on how to do so. For example, they could moderately squeeze their estate, which will give them the £5 needed. The only change I would apply to the rules would be to modify the traits checked after the squeeze, possibly replacing them with a check for loyalty(lord), just or similar. Raiding, plundering, borrowing are other possible options.

I agree with rcvan that the place to look is the Damage and Reconstruction section (pg 44 and on). I would not up the value of the tribute though. For the typical manor (£10 in BoE), £3 would be three lots damage, which matches up with the effects of a 'raid'. That just seems a simple match. During the tribute period, manors are 'raided' yearly.

rcvan, please note that while the 'sticker price' on the manor has gone up in the BoE, it actually still provides only the £6 for the support of a knight and his wife. Hence, I agree with Eothar and I would not increase the tribute. £3 has been the usual step in the economic maintenance, and hence I think it is a much better fit. Eothar comes up with the raid comparison, too, which makes sense.
From GPC, p. 13:
"Tribute: Tribute, such as that paid to the Saxons throughout much of the Anarchy and Boy King Periods, drains about £3 per manor for one normal tribute payment. In effect, this reduces the result from the Harvest Resolution Table downward by one category per tribute paid that year."

Many thanks for you suggestions! After thinking over them and reading the chapter in the BotM I have to agree:
For every tribute income drops one level (BotM). This means 25%. In a 10 L manor 2.5 L (or 3 rounded up).
