View Full Version : nOir's KAP magazines
http://www.acc.umu.se/~pax/pendragon/bilder/HpH.jpg
This is made just after the Wexford tournament, when Tristram is introduced into the KAP story. Some translations from swedish:
- Title: Happened at Court (sort of...)
- Queen in shock after the betrayal. Tristram: 'She tried to slay me in the bath."
- Sir Thomas' ultimatum to Sir Bron: "Stop your wild ways or stop courting my sister"
- Christmas Feast ended in tragedy. Sir Asbrand accused by his best friend.
- Those who outlived Madog - a whole big bunch. We know about them all. Oldest son buys secret harbour town? Widow courted by retired nobleman.
- Asbrands mother in scandalous scenes. Siv: "I need my confessions now."
- Interview with Baran the Drunkard. "I love sausages and wine!"

This is made after the winter phase, at the beginning of a hunt. A white hart has been spotted, and dreams of magical rewards spurs the knights to go adventuring. Some translations from swedish:
- Title: (The Royal Magazine on) HUNTING - the Boar edition
- "I saw a white hart". See the readers' own woodcuts.
- "You must have mustard with the boar". Vincent knows his way around the best recepies.
- Hunting dog of the month!
- Birchbark or brass? Straight or curved? HUNTING has tested the latest horn models.
- How to prepare for a boar hunt.
- "I was chased by wolves". The knight of the Lakes tells of his worst hunting episode.

This is made when the hunt of the white hart has led them into further adventuring. They (and mostly the groups RTK candidate, the Chivalrous Sir Thomas Blackbird) have "rescued" the citizens of Braidwood (northern Gorre) from their human-sacrificing druid and their proud pagan of a count. They have also encountered a tower full of weeping damsels (whose lovers turn into wolves at night, and who themselves turn into birds during daytime - a Ladyhawk ripoff, I know). Some translations from swedish:
- Title: Chivalry Monthly
- EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW! Rookie of the year: Sir Thomas Blackbird - le Chevalier sans Espoir (pages III and IV).
- "Queen Gwenivere is my role model!" Sir Meliagraunce wants to bring the ideals of romance to the north.
- Is Sir Morian forever lost? The Latest news from Stoneleigh. The Red Knight is still foiling the attempts of noble knights.
- Guest chronicle of the month: "When mercy came to town".
- We nominate the most chivalrous deed of the year!
- "That's why we can't expect the commoners' gratitude". Experts explains it all.
- New series of articles: Wicker Man - the myths and the magic.
- The Just War - Lessons from France
- The Bishops' Corner: The words of Christ guides us.
- Monthly Debate: "Women - do they need saving - from themselves?"
- The Lists of the new year - the works! Unsolved adventures, the monster guide and the twenty most unchivalrous lords.

This is made after a time of travelling in the wilds of the pictish highlands, searching for Loch Rannog. They are trying to find a forgotten pict clan, and their magical secrets, before the evil druid of Braidwood can get his filthy hands on them.

Sorry to interrupt your roll, but brilliant.
Great idea, a really nice way to summarize the year.

thx guys! ;D I have a few more to come. I think they are great, too! I was hoping that not only the "initiated" would appreciate them. :) Imagine every time we get one of these - every little headline on these covers is a reference to something memorable that happened in the game. It's great! :) I'm glad that you like them too, guys. I'll tell the artist. ;D

This one is made just after the episode with the imprisoned damsels was resolved. As it turned out, the tower with all the maidens was one of Morgana le Fey's devious devices to get the wolf-knights (mentioned earlier) to do her bidding. after a showdown with her, Sir Thomas the Knight without Hope (our chivalrous guy) managed to break the curse of the tower freeing all the maidens and their lovers. BUT, as all the other knights were bogged down in fighting the tower's defending forces (including the cursed wolf-knights), Morgana put a spell on Thomas, after he refused to make sweet hero-love to her, forcing his chaste (= misogynic) ass to follow ALL ladies first three biddings for the rest of his miserable life. her first bidding was "come on over, hero! strip, and and get down to work!" :-* her other two biddings, he fears, will come when he is a RTK and close to KAP (= pretty soon).

This one is made when our brave PKs are visiting Cirencester (trying to get help from an old RTK who is also a friend of one of the PKs family). They (due to the chivalrous Thomas Sans Espoir and his constant mission to defeat all who calls themselves true lovers) get caught up in the doings of the Cirencester Court of Love. Apart from Sir Thomas beating the crap outta all of Cirencester's lover-wannabe-knights (no RTKs, mind you), they also get a taste of how the CoL works. Hilarious! Our mixed bunch of battle-torn veterans, savage knights from the Long Isles (not Irish, not Brythonic - an Ulster-man in exile) and misogynic super-heroes have a very VERY hard time in coping with the concept of it all. Mega-LOL! ;D
This was last last one, so far, I am sad to say. The artist is busy finishing his PhD, and the whole bunch of heroes is thrown in to Sir Turquines dungeon (and whipped with thorns, I might add). Hope you liked them. :)
Ciao!

This one is made when our brave PKs are visiting Paris just after the second frankish war. They are trying to introduce Romance to the barbarian franks, as well as are on a mission delivering a 180£ ransom to some frankish lord near Carcassonne (hoping to get a friend RTK with them back to Prydain). On their way they've had encounters with some pillaging brittish mercenary knights, a shabby hermit (now in their company), a foppy aquitanian poet and some shady dagger-stabbing. All are paranoid about losing the cash to some devious frankish robber knight, apart from two of them (the overly religious Sir Pius, who thinks money is evil in its nature, and Queen's Knight Sir Caeron map Madog, who only cares about his lady love and the rules of fine amor). The magazine title comes from (i) the fact that France is a sorry war-torn (<-- english?) place to live in for the moment and that I, sucking tremendously in french, had a desperate woman cry out "mon baby" (<-- frenglish?) about her missing child.

These are fantastic!
The headlines for the Morgana and Romance issues are hilarious. I wonder, have you been reading Heat & Cosmopolitan too much of late?

Thanks! I'll tell the guy who made them that you liked them. I'll also ask him about Heat and Cosmo. ;) I think his excuse will be that he has a phd in media and communication studies, and that he HAS TO stay up to date with that stuff. ;D

"mon baby" - hilarious (though I'd have done no better!)
Awesome ;D
Thanks, panzer! :) I'll forward all response to the man responsible. :) (And when is the next update on your own KAP page?)

Thanks, Rob! I'm glad you like them. :) Hopefully there will be a few more soon. (But, alas, there are no interior pages. We always write some kind of resumé, but it's all in swedish and pure text, no layout, and not at all like these.)

;D We had to take a break, right there, due to heavy out-of-character-roflolling. The drama and suspense all sort of vanished, despite the poor woman having her child turn into a fearsome giant. I guess her cry of "mon babby" (as I pronounced it) didn't quite fit. :o :)

To understand parts of this somewhat esoteric magazine cover, you have to know a few things (apart from simple Star Wars trivia):
- Sir Thomas le Chevalier Sans Espoir is the banneret of Blackbird near Ayr in Gorre.
- Sir Caeron map Madog recently inherited the banneretcy of Ayrhaven (Ayr and environs in Gorre).
- Sir Caeron is Courtly Love's one true (only?) champion beyond the wall (since Meliagraunce botched the whole thing up with his kidnap the queen-thingie).
- Sir Baran is Steward of Ayr (and the PC of the guy making these mag covers).
- Sir Caeron inheriting the land was up for, ehm, "debate" with the Strangorre clan, and the focus of a 10 yr quest and my group's "major plot" @ the Tournament of the Castle of Maidens (you know when Lance is dressed as a cornish dude, Palomides goes "as wood as ever was man" and Tristram kicks everyones butt).
(And a hi-five to me, who, after years om gaming with this rag tag bunch, have managed to get them all in one place! Sir Bron Mac Colm O'Corr is married and back home on Cineal Aonghus, Sirs Caeron and Baran are in Ayr, Sir Thomas Blackbird is in Dalmellington (near Ayr) and Sir Asbrand of Freyburn is vassal to Lord Craigie (north of Ayr)! Finally! Wheeeiiii! :))
