Hi everyone. I recently purchased the BoK&L during RPGNow's GM Week and used it for the first to create a new PK with one of my player today.
We came upon a couple of issues. Maybe you guys can clarify things for us.

We were creating a brand new Knight for the start of the Conquest period (519), as he will be used in the adventure of The Maiden's Oath (in The Dragons of Britain #2). We went for the random approach. For his Homeland, he rolled that he would be coming from Cornwall/Brittany with Jagent as his home. As we went along the process we noticed the following thing.

1. In p. 43 for the Conquest period. A Poor Knight in cuirbouilli with a nasal helm is as much protected as an Ordinary Knight in chain mail with an open helm.
2. On p. 47, PKs from Jagent (Logres) have a directed trait of Suspicious of Cornwall, but in the homeland tables Jagent is mentionned as being part of Cornwall/Brittany and Logres for the same time periods (529+).
3. Similarly on p. 49, Jagent (Logres) as a Passion during the Uther/Anarchy periods of Hate Cornwall but you cannot come from Jagent in Logres during those periods just when you come from Brittany/Cornwall.

Also, for his liege lord he rolled that he was the Ruler in the Feudal 1 table. Any of you can point me at a resource where I could find who was the king of Cornwall/Jagent during the Conquest period. Finding who is where and rules what is one of my biggest challenge in rendering a consistent and believable Arthurian Britain to my players when playing Pendragon.

Thanks in advance.

That is just how the crude numbers work out, in having points for helm separate from the body armor
Adjust it to your liking
Probably by giving the guy the hauberk and open helm
a nasal helm is way easier (cheaper) to get than a hauberk

2. On p. 47, PKs from Jagent (Logres) have a directed trait of Suspicious of Cornwall, but in the homeland tables Jagent is mentionned as being part of Cornwall/Brittany and Logres for the same time periods (529+).

Yea, this has been a persistent bugaboo
See, there is a Cornwall area, a Cornwall Kingdom, and also (earlier) a Duke of Cornwall; all of which include different regions
Jagent is part of the K of Cornwall and the K of Logres at different times
I suggest making it part of Logres at this point, or else he will have many, many difficulties in play since K of Cornwall is pretty much an enemy at this time

3. Similarly on p. 49, Jagent (Logres) as a Passion during the Uther/Anarchy periods of Hate Cornwall but you cannot come from Jagent in Logres during those periods just when you come from Brittany/Cornwall.

that sounds like an error
resolution: he comes from Jagent in Logres, and hates Cornwall because they had been occupying his land

I suggest he be from Logres because King Arthur would be his king
It is King Mark who rules Cornwall

About 1. again, if cuirboulli + nasal helm is as good than chain mail + open helm (as said on p. 43), why wouldn't an ordinary knight equip himself with chain mail and nasal helm for 12 points of armour?

Another thing about finding out liege lords. We've rolled another character, a roman from Dorset whose liege is the sub ruler. Dorset being part of Logres I assume that the ruler is Arthur but the sub ruler would be an equivalent to Robert for Salisbury. I've search a couple of place and couldn't find a name for this sub-ruler. Anywhere I can find liege names per period per homelands? Or should I make something up for these lesser known counties?

Again, the numbers here are a glitch
The original KAP didn't have a separate number for the helm armor--just stats for a complete suit of this and that
The nasal helm number was a clumsy way to suss it out
so here is the totally official errate now:
Armor value for cuirboulli+nasal helm =11 points

I have not made such a list
The upcoming Book of Warlords goes into some detail about why not
the short version: because the books need to concentrate on a few things to show the details
It is not worth the investment of my time to give all details possible
Giving every possible detail will make as many people unhappy as those who are happy receiving every detail
The circumstances of game play make such things as secondary leader names so flexible and likely to change that it is not worth my limited creative time to name them and then give ways to work around the names on the forum
I have deliberately selected to use one county and give details on it
Gamemasters are free to determine the other names of secondary leaders and determine details by extrapolating from the example of Salisbury, my chose sample
If a gamemaster lacks the time to make up such information, Salisbury is there for them

Thanks Greg for your clarifications.

I did not mean to suggest that you should have provided such a list. I was just wondering if there was one. Mainly because I've read play reports and PbP online and the fine GM there seems to have such ease at creating new rulers/regents/knights that I was wondering if there was a reference on that subject. Now that I know that I won't be breaking some canon info, I'll go ahead and create my own NPCs.

Thanks again.

Thank you Doon
but tell you what
Here is a list of the Warlords, the Barons of the Sword, that is going to appear in Book of the Warlords
The Warlords
These warlords are all members of the king’s council. They all know him and he knows them. Whenever Uther is in their county or otherwise nearby, these men must attend his court. Furthermore, they may be summoned at any time for their advice. In war, these men lead their iron squadrons of knights on the bloody field of battle.
Key to Listing:
This list includes all the Barons of the Sword, whether they are great, rich, ordinary or weak. Special status is noted in each entry. Their ordinary titles are used.
Highest Title and Chief Manor, aka “caput major” (county); name (if any); other titles of other honours and/or estates (county); comments. The lists include only the castles and larger estates.
The fact that no warlords currently reside in Huntland is only an artifact of chance. Castles there are held by other barons. Warlords have resided there in the past, and will again in the future.

And here are the Barons of the Robe
Barons of the Robe
“Barons of the Robe” are men of the church who hold large tracts of land and are responsible for supplying knights and soldiers to the king’s army. These men cannot bear arms or lead troops and so marshals perform that duty for them. In addition to the barons of the robe many other abbots exist, especially in the British Church. Some of them have a significant number of armed men, but they are not vassals of the king, hence not barons.
These men of the church hold land by barony. All of them also hold various parcels land in Free Alms.
1. Abbot of Ambrius’ Abbey (Salisbury)
2. Abbot of Bladud’s Mound (Summerland), including its castle †
3. Abbot of River Ford (Silchester), including a castle †
4. Abbot of West Abbey (Thamesmouth)
5. Abbot-bishop of St. Albans (Hartland), also Castle on the Heather
6. Bishop of Camulodunum (Caercolun), Oatfield Estate; also New Works Castle † (Linden), Palace in the Oatfield (Thamesmouth)
7. Bishop of Corinium (Clarence)
8. Bishop of Durnovaria (Dorsette)
9. Bishop of Linden Pool (Lindsey)
10. Bishop of Londinium (Thamesmouth), also Castle on the Birch Hill
11. Bishop of Silchester (Silchester), also holds Middlestone Castle
12. Bishop of Venta (Caerwent), also West Valley Castle † (Salisbury)

Thanks Greg for the very exhaustive list. Can't wait to see the Book of the Warlords when it comes out.

Regarding my Dorset question, I've finally found an answer. I decided to post it here in case others would be looking for something similar.
According to Knight Adventurous, Dorset is ruled by Praetor Jonathel. A quite conservative Roman who prefers to call his knights equites and his infantry the British Legion.

So, in my research, Knight Adventurous is the best supplement I've found to date to give the beginning KAP GM an idea of the lay of the land and of its rulers.
