Is the Siege skill a Knightly skill?

I would think so otherwise Knight Castellans would be pointless. The GPC description indicates "it is more like Battle than like Sword..." It is also listed under "Combat Skills" on the official character sheet from Stafford's page.

Definitely a Knightly Skill. In our campaign we do not use Siege but allow Battle to do that too.

When I had a campaign running, we just used Battle as well. When we talked about it, it was suggested that some people may be better at leading in a standard battle, while others may have a proficiency for sieges. In response it was suggested that some leaders are better at the tactical level, others at the strategic level and a few possibly at the operational level. To split those out would be too cumbersome and I think unrealistic for the game.

I will have to admit that I might be an anachronism myself. I do not use any of the new skills from Pendragon 5.0. For that matter, I still using Ride and Hawking. Or would if we were still playing.

I like more skills rather than less so I would use Siege.

In addition, I think the fact that Ladies can gain Siege in their role as steward of the land without becoming great generals in the field is an important distinction. I suppose you could use Battle for knights and Siege only for Ladies to make the distinction though.

Then what would be the starting rank in Siege?
During character generation, the 5.1 Rulebook has starting ranks for all the skills before you start customizing your character.
The Siege skill is introduced in the Campaign book, but doesn't mention what it's starting value is.

For Cymri men, it is 2. For Cymri females, it is 5 per the Book of Knights&Ladies
