All,

Man, time flies when you're having fun. The Book of the Estate came out a year ago this month. Regrettably, that was the last major release for the game since. As reported previously, we've not been idle but rather very busy reimagining the world of King Arthur Pendragon with an epic, all-new map that delivers on Greg's long-standing vision of the game that has frankly not been practical to deliver on. Until now. Going forward, all the books in the line (and yes we have quite a pipeline) will benefit from the astonishing amount of meticulous research and design that's taken place over the last twelve months, some glimpses of which we've already previewed in these forums.

We're happy to announce that the Book of the Warlord, long overdue, is now finally in full-on production mode. You can download the book's Introduction chapter here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/en0xm4zw2ah1jr1/Book-of-the-Warlord-Sneak-Peek-v.1.pdf) to get a sneak peek of things to come. Although this won't reveal any of the map work, at least you can check out the Table of Contents and read the Intro so you know what's coming in this next book, which is a companion piece to the Book of the Estate. That book was for the lesser nobility. This one's for the greater nobles — those knights who have won the medieval game of life. What's a baron to do with himself all day? This book will tell you. It's got useful information for Gamemasters and players alike and fills in more of the gaps in our knowledge of High Society, PENDRAGON-style.

We hope you enjoy this preview and it will tide you over until the release of this book, which we're now measuring in weeks, not months. There's still some map work to be done as well as some proofing and QC so it's not fully baked yet, but the book is really shaping up nicely and we thought we'd share.

Enjoy!

Best,

T.

Oh it looks very very good, and I will be saving up my denarii!

I do have a question though.

How much of the information remains valid post Anarchy and into Boy King and beyond.

My GPC has gone beyond Badon and into the Conquest period, so I am wondering how much of WARLORD will remain usable?

That's a great question, SirUkpyr

Most of the information in WARLORD is tailored for the Early Phase, no doubt about it.

But there's a ton of great information that can still be useful in later phases.

There are a couple of hundred castles that are first raised in this age, all located on maps, and described with stats, current tenants, etc. These will continue to evolve in subsequent periods (to reflect the reality of the medieval arms race) but at least you'd have an astonishing inventory of castles, such as never seen before in a Pendragon supplement. Then there are the all-new and precedent-setting maps of Logres and Salisbury, which provide some foundational information that could certainly inform or inspire events in later phases of the campaign. There are other things like a detailed economy model for managing Honours (really big estates), a method for resolving medieval litigation, an officer's mini-game of Graft, a Warlord generator, and more. All of these things have immediate value (IMHO) for any Gamemaster, regardless of the Phase you're campaign is in. You might see tweaked out versions of some of these in the future, tailored to the Middle or Late phases, but it's still very useful to have these until such time as those others can be developed and published. Or just modify the models for the current Phase of your campaign as needed.

Good question - and helpfully answered. Thanks both! The hardcover will be mine once released...

My thanks Taliesin!

I will most certainly be saving my denarii for this, although I might get the perfect bound instead of the hard bound, depending on the cost differential (grin).

Well, needless to say the QC process has taken a lot longer than I anticipated. The good news is we're very nearly done — really. I'll be working on it this weekend and then submitting a FINAL CANDIDATE for review and a last round of edits. Then we uploading to DriveThru. Should be delivering it in a week or two at the most.

Sorry for inconvenience, but this book is worth the wait, I promise. We're very excited to release this bombshell of a book. We're up to 200 pages of unbelievably cool, "sandbox" material. We're very proud of it and are very eager to finally get it into your hands!

Thanks for your patience!

UPDATE: The Book of the Warlord was submitted to the printer about a week ago and we're waiting for proofs to come back, should be any day now. We'll making any adjustments based on what we see in the proofs and hopefully be able to submit to DriveThru very soon—in time for Christmas at least.

The final book weighs in at around 200 pages!
