I love the legend, and this game looks like a great way to play in the legend, but I like the idea of having magic player characters via the 4e rules. Is it possible to use that part of the 4e rules with the 5.1 rules, and what about using Land of Giants? A viking game sounds like a blast too. Sorry if these are silly questions, and thanks in advance for the answers and advice.

Yes! The fundamental underpinnings of the game have not changed all that much. You ma y have to house rule a few aspects here and there, but nothing to challenging.

Yeah, no real issues. Just note that the magical potential of locations and lands is not listed in more current products. So you'll need to dig through the older ones or handwave it.
