View Full Version : KAP-related/Fan-created Products - What Made it to Print?

I know there was a Pendragon fanzine in the 90's called Beaumains that had a short run (6 issues), as well as various Pendragon articles/adventures in both White Dwarf and Dragon magazines. Beyond these and official products through original publishers (Chaosium, Green Knight, White Wolf/Arthaus, Nocturnal), what official/unofficial products were historically released in print form?

My list of magazines with articles (I haven't dug up anything old in a long time, so I think it's complete):

Adventures Unlimited 5
Australian Realms (AU) 27
Beaumains (UK) 1-6
Black Mole (UK) 1-5 [the only ones on the list which I don't own - a precursor to Beaumains and even harder to find - I'm not even looking]
Concepts (UK) 2
Different Worlds 20, 42
Dragon 201
Dragons Of Britain (pdf) 1-4
Fantasy Chronicles (UK) 2
Knights Of The Dinner Table 89
Last Province (UK) 1
Pyramid 24
Role Player Independent (UK) 10
Sword & Sorcery Insider (pdf) V3 3-4
Tradetalk (DE) 4, 8, 12
Valkyrie (UK) 9-11
White Dwarf (UK) 81, 83, 85, 91
White Wolf 26, 37
Ye Booke Of Tentacles (DE) 2, 4

Beyond that, Greg's original self published versions of the first four Book Of... volumes and some tournament adventures are the only things I can think of.

I don't have any duplicates, but many are not hard to find.

Dragons of Britain is free, as far as I know. You can either search this forum:
http://nocturnal-media.com/forum/index.php?topic=2087.0
or head straight to DriveThruRPG:

Was Sword & Sorcery Insider a free PDF? Any idea where it's available?

Do you mind if we reproduce this list on Greg's new site?

I know you meant this for Historian, but wanted to add in my recent research I discovered other magazines and fanzines with KAP content:

Arcane Magazine #8
Maelstrom Magazine #1
Valkyrie (UK) #8
Tales of the Reaching Moon (UK) #6
The Unnamed (UK) #3

I suspect there are more to be discovered...

In addition, it would be helpful as these are discovered to list their Pendragon-related contents. Here's what I know:

Black Mole #3 (1990) - Editorial by Gareth Jones discussing a scenario submission he made to Chaosium based around the Battles of Dubglas and Badon.
Black Mole #5 (1991) - Editorial by Gareth Jones discussing The Boy King and Savage Mountains. It also includes his Pendragon scenario "The Battle of Mount Badon"
The Unnamed #3 (1992) - Pendragon scenario "Mists of the Fey" by Tim Husband. This tourney adventure takes place in Salisbury (531)
KotDT #89 (2004) - "Adventure of the Mill Giant" by Andrew Hind. This short adventure takes place in Thirsk anytime after 525

Cheers!

Chuck

these I never heard of. Are these magazines still in print?

Search for White Wolf Quarterly instead - S&SI was part of that (not sure why I listed it separately). It was a free download, but I don't recall where I found it. Personally, I'd have no problem resharing a free item... others here might frown on that...

Not at all.

Also, note that anything I list actually has some game related content. Some sites note magazines in which the only KAP material is a review. I exclude that, as it's not of enough interest for me to chase down. I also generally exclude fanzines unless they are completely KAP focused, as they're simply too hard to locate.

In my recent research I discovered other magazines and fanzines with KAP content:

I suspect that Arcane 8 is a review only, from what I can tell from the notes at rpg.net, but it should be left to be researched until someone can put their hands on a copy.

I don't have a copy of Valkyrie 8 at the moment, but it happens to be packed in with some other items that are on the way to me now, so I can report back shortly, but my money is on product review only.

Tales Of The Reaching Moon 6 is an edge case - it's really KAP rules in the Glorantha setting, as opposed to pure KAP. Could be of interest to some, I suppose. For completeness, I'll note that one of the articles was published in Enclosure 1 as well, an even harder to find Glorantha zine.

Unnamed wouldn't pass my zine threshold (see above), so I can't comment there.

Maelstrom is unknown to me. It looks to have been published in Canada, so I'll get in touch with some collectors there to see what we can learn about it.

I'll also try to find some time to make some notes about the articles in each magazine. It might be a while though.

It would be really great to get scans of these and include on the one-and-future KAP website.

Possible?

Thanks for the pointer, I was able to track them on the old White Wolf site via www.archive.org

Some (most?) of these fan/web/magazines are still protected by copyright laws, and in fact a few are still available for purchase (for example, Pyramid #24: http://www.warehouse23.com/products/pyramid-classic-number-24).
So, I suggest that only a link to the source(s) for these articles is put on Greg's page, instead of a complete scan.
Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, Roberto. We wouldn't dream of offering content that was for sale elsewhere. I thought all this stuff was long out of print or otherwise unavailable.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Best,

They are. But that doesn't change copyright law, unfortunately.

But a scan of the cover and a brief note of what's relevant to KAP inside does seem reasonable. I'd certainly be happy to help work on that project.

This is indeed a reasonable approach. I will help with what I have.

I haven't had a chance to do much further work on this, but I wanted to note that the parcel with Valkyrie 8 finally showed up, and it does have actual content, so my previous list should be updated to show that issues 8-11 all have relevant content.
