Hi Guys,
One of my players is getting a new character created using the BoKL.
Does a poor knight get a squire, just they only get a War Pony and a sumpter, I assume the sumpter couldn't be used for all his gear and the squire? Also is a War Pony like a charger, as in it should be rested till combat and won't be ridden all the time?
Cheers,

A poor knight does not get a squire.
(Just guessing) He'd use the pony as his riding mount as well, not having the luxery of a 2nd mount.

I agree. No squire. If its hard enough to feed yourself/family, how can you feed and equip a squire?
A couple possible exceptions:
The squire is some form of levy of yours. Perhaps some exceptional workhand or peasant whom can count as a crappy squire (-5 for Squire rolls).
Your lord provides one. This is probably the most likely solution, as your lord is supposed to supply you with what you need to fight for him.

I too think NO squire. If u get a pony and a sumpter, i believe you save the pony for war and ride the sumpter. Biut since u are soo poor and dismal, i as a gm might say that ur pony is so hardy and tough that u can ride him all the time. HAHAHAH Totaly poor knights. Dont be too hard on em. They will; probably lose their poiny in the winter phase anyway!!!!! :'(

Cheers for the replies.
To be honest he was quite fun to build as my players rolls were all over the place.
He's the seventh son (ouch), but his father was Seneschal of Salisbury and with his influence managed to land him a job as a knight with a family friend the Justicer of Salisbury. For recent heroics in Cornwall he was been awarded a scruffy little manor that needs some work (5l income). So even though he's poor he has still managed to scrape through with poor vassal knight.
He is the backup knight of a player, but should get more use next period.

A squire? Probably not, but as a GM I'd let you have one if you wanted...even D'Artagnan had a servant...but as your knight only has a sumpter and a war pony, the knight could ride the war pony and the squire the sumpter (good thing he's poor and doesn't have much gear to sit among), or the squire could ride behind the knight, or the squire could walk -- remember Xena and Gabrielle? Yeah! I might also have peasants jeer the character, and knights of proper station laugh and scorn the knight on the sumpter.
War ponies would be much more comfortable to ride than chargers, and more knightly-looking than riding the sumpter. I wouldn't insist on it being kept in reserve for battles/jousts only.
