How should single important NPC followers be handled in battles?

If a player character only has a single follower, how are battle losses calculated in regard to that specific character?

Presumably a “loss” would simply be the loss of that follower (one man, 1d6 or 15% whichever is greater), but what about finding lost followers? Everything except “all return” would mean bad things.

What would be a reasonable interpretation, unless it’s simply all or nothing (I.e. dead if not fully returned)?

Referring to table 5.3 "followers return"

None = irrevocably gone
¼ return = Major wound, nearly dead, difficult times ahead OR Also dead and gone
½ return = Half Hp left, no major wound, recuperation ahead OR Major wound and difficult times?
¾ return = Minor wounds, nothing too serious OR Badly hurt, no major wound but recuperation.
All return = Back and fine, unharmed OR minor wounds, nothing too serious.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I think that the usual rules for rounding numbers in KAP does apply. So, decimal figures lower than .5 are rounded down (to the previous integer) and decimal figures equal to or higher than .5 are rounded up (to the next integer).
So,
1/4 return = irrevocably gone (1/4 of 1 = 0.25, rounded down to 0)
1/2 or 3/4 return = back, with different degrees of wounds (1/2 of 1 = 0.5, rounded up to 1; 3/4 of 1 = 0.75, rounded up to 1)
