View Full Version : The Book of Adventures

Note quite sure where to put this post - it kind of straddles several different sections and at the same time fits neatly into none! Still, threads about supplements seem to be popping up here, so this seems to be the best place to put it!
The gauntlet seems to have been thrown down - can we as a group of Pendragon fans come up with enough good material to put together to make a new book of adventures?
I can offer two pieces - a scenario I ran at Continuum 2008 'The Knights of Cadfannon and the Fenland Dragon'. It finishes with a battle scene, I might rewrite it so that it uses the latest battle rules rather than doing a few skirmishes as I did in the original. I shall also try and write up my promised but never delivered 'Weddings in Pendragon' - our group dedicated a whole session recently to a PC knights wedding, and it made a surprisingly different but enjoyable gaming evening.
Anyone else interested in contributing something? If so, let us know about it in this thread and will see if we can get anything off the ground....

Well if fan products are ok, maybe we forum members should get together and do one. Like a book of NPCs or Adventures.
Adventures then!
They are the most difficult to do, and the most important part to keep the game flowing.
And if you don't want to publish them, I will be happy to consider doing so.

One thing that maybe worth considering is to start of small and simple.
Why don't we use a similar format to the one sheets for savage worlds.
So we put our heads together and produce 1 adventure, get the editing and layout nice and turn it into a nice pdf people can download and run.
When that's done move onto the next item.
My only concern is if the project starts to big and with hundreds of ideas nothing will get done.

A week or so ago I just ran a fun little quest, The vile Knight of the Fowl, involving a famously cowardly knight who kidnaps a maiden at court and takes her back to his castle.
I should be able to set some time aside to fully write it up.

I've been giving some thought to adapting the Baltic crusades and the Teutonic Knights to Pendragon.

So the Teutonic Knights are part of your "Pendragon" world, then, Greg? (It makes sense, since you inserted other elements of medieval history not conventionally part of the Arthurian legend into the game - the Knights Templar (led by the White Knight here), Joan of Arc (as the Lass of France in the Twilight Period), the Salisbury Oath (via the Companions of Arthur), the Magna Carta ("Royal Conversation" for 525), the death of Richard the Lion-hearted (transferred to Borre), etc.)

I was thinking of also giving them a directed trait of Suspicious +5 of Pagans-- they've been taken in by false promises of conversion for truces too many times.
If you don't mind me asking, how are you incorporating them? I was thinking of just plopping them in right from history, only playing down their connection to the Holy Roman Empire. Also, any thoughts on what the Lithuanian/Prussian pagans should be like? I think that the BoKL Picts are a perfect fit for their style of warfare.

And more than that. :)
The Book of Armies covers the whole dark and middle ages.
Everything from Roman Legionaires to pike and bill troops. :)

They are only one line on a chart of "Alternatives" offered for the German Army.
They are FAR away from Britain, and FAR away from Arthurian ideals, so I'm not much interested in them.

So so far we've got:
The Knights of Cadfannon and the Fenland Dragon - Merlin
Weddings in Pendragon - Merlin
The Vile Knight of the Fowl - Isaachee
An adaptation of the Baltic Crusades and the Teutonic Knights to Pendragon - Doorknobdeity
Contribution/assistance - kevlar1818
A Saxon Adventure - Finn56 (That's a yes please!)
Looking good to me!
I guess the obvious next step is to get the scenarios etc. written up and then we can think about editing, proofreading, layout etc.
Would a deadline be helpful? If so, how long do you think we need?

anyone for making a Welsh adventure?

It just so happens that I have a an old welsh adventure. I need to clean it up and update it to 5th edition though. It is called " Dark nights In Merionyydd ", and takes place mostly in that evil kingdom. If you are interested that is? :)

I don't know, it would be a good addition. The Welsh are more of a Middle Ages faction, probably roughly the Anarchy/Boy King periods in Pendragon time...

So Merlyn.... If we finish our scenario's should we send them to you, then sir? Will u be willing to be the coordinater in this affair? Let us all dcide how and when to submit these adventures, and i think that , YES, a deadline would help out a little. Anyone else think so? :)

Ok, so next steps. What shall we say, initial drafts in by end of November? That gives us a couple of months. Then we can work out how to take it from there. As administrator of the site, I can set up a private section for us to share ideas, post drafts etc. so that we can work with each other on this - I'll check Greg doesn't mind that and then get back to you.

And so it is!
The catch is that it will be invisible to everyone except those who are part of the Book of Adventure group. Confirm your interest and I'll add you to the group!

Against my better judgment, I'll commit. My "adventures" will be more like the rough suggestions that make up so much of the GPC.
By the way, this wasn't terribly clear in your initial post-- will this actually be published published and sold, a la the BoKL? Or is this more of an unofficial fan thing?

I think Greg offered to publish on our behalf if we get something sorted, and if we don't publish ourselves. I guess it all depends on what we actually manage to pull together. Here's the original thread so you can see where this started: http://www.gspendragon.com/roundtable/index.php?topic=285.0
I'll add you to the BoA Group in a moment - next time you log in hopefully you'll see a new section on the board!

How about BoQ. Book of Quests. So they may not be quests but Round Table Knight are identified by them.
I have one for you; it would serve best during the Romance Period. It's called "The Adventure of the Three Ladies of the Fountain". I ran it for Greg and his Berkeley group a few years back. They seemed to enjoy it, though they may have just been humoring me. :)

I'm still willing to serve as an proof-reader if nothing else. Like I have said in other threads, I've been very busy with school lately, but I'd love to help in any way I can. Hopefully I can add a scenario at some point as well!

Hi,
I would gladly help out with another critical proof-read.
It will provide a nice change from referee-ing science papers :)
fg,
Thijs
I'd also be glad to proof-read/grammar-check/etc as needed. After grading about a billion freshmen papers this should be a breeze.

Looks like we had a plenty of people to call upon for proof-reading! Excellent. I'll get back to you all when we've got content at that stage. In the meantime still plenty of space for submissions!

Did you already 'plunder' the chaosium digest adventures (as far they have not already been published by green knight)?
Eg, I liked :
The Adventure of the Bandits and the Stag
The Adventure of the Breaking of the Red Knight's Siege
by Paul "Wiggy" Williams a lot, I can ask him for permission to publish..

I've posted up a couple of my mini adventures over on the Great Pendragon Campaign page on RPG Geek. They're not massively detailed but if there's anything of use there feel free to use them:

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't considered this, thinking we'd mainly use new work. No harm in asking though I guess - sound him out about the possibility!
