A reader pointed out to me that Sir Bassianus is depicted as having two different coats of arms — the chequy design on p. 23 and the Cross Pateé on p. 165.

The chequy design is the correct one. Next time we do an errata we'll change the design on p. 165 to belong to someone else. In you campaign you can use the Cross Pateé design to be anyone you wish.
