Synopsis: 487. PKs decide to tag along with Uther to Lindsey. I ran a hunt to pass time. I also ran a "for love" mini-tourney among the knights from Logres and Lindsey. PKs witness Lindsey's submission and partake on the Malahaut embassy. They decide to ride to the battlefield in search of the Centurion King. They run across a wounded unit of the King's men warning them that they lost a small town along the road ahead to the Saxons. The PKs think of a devious night attack/ambush. However I remain a very lucky GM and managed to crit my PKs three times this session! I think I'm growing a reputation in our group! Nonetheless, they win the battle and talk to the Centurion King.

Question #1: Can you use ANY weapon while hunting? My players and I got in a big discussion about how you can use slashing weapons in a hunt, which kind of makes sense. We thought only Daggers, Bows, and Spears could be used on a hunt. In the end, I'd say all weapons were fair game for the current hunt (since the rulebook didn't give any restrictions) and that I bring the topic up here. What do you think?

Issue #1: If a PK made it to the final round of the tourney, I would let them make a Passion roll to see if they were swayed by either their loyalty to their lord or their honor. The PKs were fighting knights from Lindsey, so it was more than a petty challenge between friends. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance.

I would think not. The noble class is pretty particular about what is acceptable for their class.

Monsters, however, are another matter.

Passions, to me, are always situational and there is no right answer. You'd have to give me background info on why this situation arose and what the players are hoping to accomplish by winning.

Hunting,

In my game,

If there hunting for food/survival anything is game.

If it's for sport, they are all on their rouncy's, leather armour and start out using spears.

If the combat goes into multiple rounds or they break their spear, then yes they can change weapons, but the initial attack is always with a spear.

If the beast is a monster then anything is game as they need all the help they can get.

Passions,

In a general friendly tourney probably not, if they had sworn to their lord to take the day or their lady then yes.

If their opponents started slurring their or their lord?s name then yes.

Not sure, good question.

All good advice. One of my knights has a decent bow skill, as he liked to hunt in his youth, so I'd probably allow him to start with a bow.

Knights I think generally dont hunt with bows. At least not making a show of it with everyone participating , etc... They might bird hunt or whatebver. In an actual HUNT that the book is refering to it is almost Exclusively wild PIGS. This being the case only one weapon will do. The spear. or BOAR spear to be exact. If that weapon drops or is broken than I guess you could use your sword and mace, but in reality u would die that way. Using anthing but a BOAR SPEAR WITH A CROSSBAR would almost asssuredly end in ur death as the boar feels no pain and only hatred and would gorre u while it was dying. With any shorter weapon u would be skewered. This is an RPG though so of course do what u want. Lancelot in an rpg could hunt with a dagger or a cookie or a bedpan and probably triumph!!!!! Ultimately just have fun i guess. :D
