Hi Gents,

I noticed in the original rules under F. Strategic Considerations it says the leader of each force makes an unopposed roll.

My question is what?s the point of the enemy leader doing it, as far as I can tell your Army commander makes a battle roll, you look at the result on the tactics table. This then may or may not modify the battalion commanders roll, to see if you get a bonus on the initial charge. The success or failure of the enemies roll has no effect.

The enemy army?s battle skill has no effect on the battle.

I know in a skirmish each leader rolls and this directly affects each forces first round of combat.

Cheers,

BigSteveUK

Sorry, I can't find "strategic considerations" in my current, latest manuscript.
I cannot find where this occurs at all.

BigSteveUK is talking about the core rules Battle mechanics. There's definitely something there similar to what he quoted, but I don't have a book handy to give a page reference right now.

This is the section Steve is referring to. It's from KAP5 p.207, bottom right.

F. STRATEGIC CONSIDERATIONS
Selection of the battlefield is critical; some sites offer great advantages to one army or the other. Many other manageable matters can affect the outcome of a battle as well. The specific site may have been predetermined by the events or considerations of the campaign, but in game terms, the leader of each force is still entitled to make a Battle roll to affect his army?s effectiveness. In battle, as in a skirmish, the primary commander of each force makes a Battle roll before any direct hostilities begin. If the player knights? commander is not a PC, the Gamemaster determines the commander?s skill and makes an unopposed roll on Table 6?3: Tactics Modifier.

KAP, p 207 as he says.
No one should be discussing the new unpublished battle system anywhere, except me.

I am pretty sure that the entry is wrong, and that this is an opposed roll.
