This questions refers specifically to The White Horse, the scenario in the 4th edition of the game, but it could apply to any number of scenarios. At a certain point, the characters run into a small group festivity, dancing and frolicking, and are offered food and drink and merriment.

The scenario states explicitly that the PK must roll their Temperate to resist the temptation of eating and staying out of the rest of adventure. I have nothing against this but it begs the question, why is this roll compulsory? Why aren't players allowed to roleplaying the choice? I know the obvious is "players will always choose whatever is most beneficious to them" and with no negative / alternative consequences, Temperate is the way to go to avoid staying out of the adventure. However, it could also because the scene is framed as happening during a magical night, so the PKs' Virtues are being tested.

This would be it.
