I feel like we are doing something incorrect in our groups awards for this event. The book states a flat glory/round award for fighting in the battle. On top of that is the award for taking Octa or the banner. Then, glory for the combatants fought per round. The battle was Huge (*3) and a decisive victory (*2) for multipliers on the individual round fights (not the flat awards). Then add in leader glory and extra if any PCs were unit commanders.

All in all this ends up between 1500-2000 glory for a single battle! Is this what’s expected or have we done something wrong (as this seems excessive!). Thanks!

Where did you get that Huge *3 modifier? If you are following GPC rules, it should be flat 60 Glory per battle round (representing 30 - 60 min of the battle), modified the results of the melee rolls. Decisive victory multiplies that Glory by 2 in those rules, yes.

However, capturing Octa's banner is totally separate from Battle Rules. That is a normal combat with combat rounds (usually a few to tens of seconds long), and it gives its glory separately, based on how many enemies you defeat and if you get the banner or not. This is not multiplied by the size of the battle nor the victory.

EDIT: Rereading your post, it almost seems as if you are giving the battle round glory as per GPC, AND additional Glory based on the opponents, as in Book of Battles 2. This is wrong, as the BoB2 replaces GPC rules, not supplement them. But maybe I am still misunderstanding what you are doing?

Yeah - the issue was we hadn’t seen anything that said the GPC rules supplanted the BoB rules so we were using them both together. So it’s just a flat award of 60/ round, modified by decisive victory? The BoB (pg 81) also says to modify the award based on the size of the battle (that’s the Huge (battle size) * 3) - does that apply or no? I take it then we use EITHER the BoB or the GPC rules (dealer’s choice)

And yeah - we did know Octa/banner fights were not multiplied - got something right!

Thanks for the help!

The other way around, actually... GPC battle rules are the KAP 5.x battle rules, which are older than the BoB2 battle rules. But yes, it is either/or. Either you get
a) GPC: sum of round glory, which is (60 * each round individual result, loss (x0.5) or win (x1) ), and multiply the total by 2 for decisive victory
or
b) BoB2: round-per-round glory based on the opponent and the individual result * 3 for huge * 2 for decisive victory

So by and large, you get about the same Glory.

500 or so is what I expect from that battle for most PKs. I've seen higher and if you use BoB and have some real bruisers it can go even higher.

Keep in mind also that no award for a single act/deed can ever give more than 1000. I usually consider the fight with Octa part of the battle and cap the total at 1000. However if they capture him or the banner that's separate becausethat gets acknowledged afterward at the victory party.

I admit that in our campaigns, I tend to minimize the 'round per round' Glory* (dropping the decisive victory multiplier works wonders, as does the huge battle modifier, if using BoB2), and try to include a significant event fought with extended melee (i.e. normal combat), like the banner capture or a significant NPK like an enemy commander or a personal rival/nemesis.

* The reason being is that I rather hate the inflation that this causes to the Glory amounts. Almost every knight in Logres will be in the Battle of Lincoln, and most will have similar skill levels or better than the PKs in their mid-to-late 20s. This means that the average NPK is probably racking similar Glory amounts, and if we take 500 as representative, this is of the order of how much Glory an NPK gains during the rest of the decade or so, maybe even more. So suddenly, there is this huge jump in the average Glory, and it keeps happening in every big battle. I know this is deliberate from Greg: there is an old thread about me moaning and bitching about this, with him explaining that it is so that the 510 - 530 years are the ones when Glory flows generously, meaning that the next generation will feel more antsy as during the peace time, there is not as many chances for Glory. I still don't like it. :P I have no problems with PKs racking up lots of Glory in battles, but I prefer it to come from actual heroics, not simply rolling Weapon skill six times against some nameless, generic adversaries.

That is one way of dealing with it, sure. Do you multiply the extended melee glory with the victory modifier in this case?
