I've just started (as in we've only done the intro scenario in the book so far) a Pendragon campaign for some friends, and was wondering what kind of events would make for good justice events at a knight's manor? One of the PCs started with Just 16, and when using the Manorial Luck table for inspiration, his manor got the 'Justice Event is mandatory' event, so I'd like to make a big thing of this.
I'm not entirely sure what kind of event would be of sufficient magnitude to call upon the knight's judgement (rather than that of his mother, who is the de facto steward until he gets married). Ideally, I'd like an event which will conflict with a passion (the knight has all the standard passions at 15, and hate (picts) at 11) to ramp up the drama. The PC is a pagan knight (but not amazingly devout) and, in addition to his mother, has an older illegitimate brother knocking around the manor (as well as two younger brother off squiring).
So far, I've got a few rough ideas about having the conflict be between one of his peasants (who is in the legal right) and his brother, but I'm not sure what exact event would be right there. The other idea would be a guest of his household who does something wrong which calls hospitality and justice into conflict, but once again, I lack for concrete ideas. Any suggestions from those more well versed in the setting would be most appreciated!
On a final note, another player knight has chosen Modest (along with Reckless!) as his two keystone virtues. I'm trying to think of ways to make having a high Modesty be awesome, so suggestions there would also be most useful. The player in question is only able to attend half the sessions, and to explain his IC absence, he's saying that his Reckless PC is always gallivanting off on quests here and there, somewhat ignoring his responsibilities back home. One thought I'd had is having these unspecified quests impact play - Lady Lynet appears at court, looking to find and reward the anonymous knight who saved her, or when the knights are captured by Sir Breunis, a monk the knight had helped previously (and never mentioned to anyone) helps to set them free. Are there any other good ways to highlight extreeem modesty?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
