Ok, 5th edition Battle/Tournament-Melee rules. Prisoner is taken at a critical battle roll by leader on the 'Followers Fate'-list. Is the ransom of this prisoner shared by the group or does it go to the leader? There is no chance for a single knight to capture someone?
Is a player himself captured when he goes unconscious or when knocked down?
When only knocked down (I've read some tournaments where that is enough to be eliminated during melee) then shouldnt all opponents check if they are knocked down in order to pay ransom to the knocking player?

PS: Regrettably my small gaming-budget does not allow purchase of of the 'Book-of-Battle', of which I am sure some of this gets clarified.

Hello Thijs and All,

I have ransom work differently depending on the tourney. Arthur's Pentacost is the most tourney of the year and most follow his lead. In the Melee at Pentacost, captured prisoners are held as normal, but are released at the end of the day. No ransoms are paid or expected. In real battles, I have always had the ransom sent to the lord/lady in charge. It is their responsiblity to distribute the bonus as they see fit. Typically in my game. The battle commander, if not the lord/lady, gets a quarter of the ransom total collected and the top five battalion commanders or other senior lords get 5% each. The main lord in charge of the entire campaign keeps the other half. In the case that my knights are in a free company, a ship model is usually used. The captain or general or demi-god or whatever the leader calls himself, gets the ten shares. An Lt counts as five shares. A sergeant as two and normal soldier/knight/grunt gets one. So if you had a company with 1 captain, 3 Lt, 15 sergeants and 60 men, then you would calculate a share as follows:
10(for capt), 3@5 shares(for 3 Lt), 15@2(for 15 sgt), 40@1(for normal soldier), thus, 10+15+30+40=95 shares. So if the total ransom was 190 pounds, then each share would be 2L. So each man would get 2L, each Sgt would get 4L(2X2L), each Lt would get 10L(5X2L) and the Capt would get 20L(10X2L). Hope this was helpful.

Hi,
that was a good idea indeed, I'll likely use something similar. But how to decide how many members were in the team?

But isnt being member/leader of a free company reason from being excluded from a company..
