Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I was wondering if there was any word whether the books shipped today or were pushed back again?

:( Alas, no they were not.
They will be a couple of days late, but will go out quickly once they hit my door.

Sorry. :(

Hi Greg,

I am really looking forward to the books but at the same time, I am not upset at all that they've had to be delayed - that's life! Thanks for the updates and I look forward to reading my books whenever I get them!

I am slightly concerned though that my email address has changed since I made the Paypal payment for the books - all the other details have remained the same so hopefully this doesn't mess things up too much!

Sorry to be pushy, but any word at this point, it being a week later and all.

I hope it's too much trouble if I add my own gentle poke too?

My PayPal Account had the wrong address on it and I corrected it via email, so I'm not sure if any delays are due to my own PayPal related stupidity or if the books aren't on there way out yet.

I'm sure Greg will inform the group when the books are sent out. Please try to remember what time of year it is - chances are, if Greg himself doesn't have his hands full, then the printers might be backed up, the postal service might be having difficulties, and who knows what other complications may arise.
Let's be patient.

Thank you Darren,

Another full-on strike, critical success!

Today is Tuesday, Dec 15 2009.

The layout has had its delay (mea culpa).
The printer has had his, twice (once in printing late, once in shipping later than promised)

I am told that the books will arrive here tomorrow.
Let us see if UPS is any better at their word.

I will have them out in two days, with all current European orders sent first if it takes two days.
Then we can see if the USPS (and your friendly local post, if outside the US) is good for their word in this busy, mailing season.

I apologize for these delays, beg everyone's patience, and ask you watch here http://www.gspendragon.com/roundtable/index.php?topic=278.0 for further news.

What about Australian orders? ;D

Great stuff - looking forward to them.

Can I ask a favour - if possible could they be labelled clearly as books? The reason being that books don't attract VAT here in the UK. The problem is that if VAT is added, then the carrier also adds a "handling charge" which is often quite a bit more than the VAT+customs combined. I often buy wargames from GMT on pre-order, and buying a (say) $50 game+P&P is ok, but then to have VAT added (15%) and then the carrier add another $20-$30 on top for pressing a button to print a form is extremely annoying!

In this case, as the contents are books, it shouldn't be a problem if labelled as such. No sure about other countries' modus operandi.

thanks,

Mark

Just like to second what Mark said there as that's a very valid point.

UK customs/carriers have become very mercenary over the last few years and will slap seemingly arbitrary amounts onto anything they can. I bought some dice from the US a few months back and the extra charge was nearly twice that of the items themselves.

Items marked as books are exempt from VAT.

I still can't believe that anyone in the world stands up side down, and so I sent them all to Europe, Austria, because I have been there and know it is real. I really was surprised about that huge red desert in the middle of Austria though. It really doesn't show up well on maps.

Too late. They were sent.

They are, at a value of US$10, and are gifts.

No sure about other countries' modus operandi.

Let's hope it is the same. :)

There's a postal strike on here Down Under so it probably won't take any longer to travel via Austria. ;D

Ok, great stuff. I shall look forward to some Christmas presents in a few(?) days time, Royal Mail etc notwithstanding.

thanks,

Mark

I received my set of books yesterday - Manor, Battles, Armies, Knights & Ladies.
Haven't had a chance to read them, just to thumb through them to confirm their awesomeness.

If anyone else in the U.S. hasn't gotten theirs, I wouldn't panic yet. I live in Louisville, which is a mail hub. We often get mail a little faster than others.

Can't wait for these to land on the doorstep - although living in the UK I suspect I've a little while to wait yet. You may be interested to note that there is now a new Round Table section just for the new books - Battles and Armies: http://www.gspendragon.com/roundtable/index.php?board=15.0

I'm in the US and still waiting on mine, I'm getting a little worried, though I must admit I'm an impatient S.O.B. so it's probably just me. :P

I'm in the UK and my copies of both of these books arrived today.

So a huge thank you to Greg for getting them out despite me doing my best to make life awkward by giving him the wrong address.

One minor grumble I do have is that the packaging had ripped open on one corner. The packaging seemed perfectly good and solid so I'm not laying any blame at all on Greg but at some point along the delivery line it got a bit battered about and that must have taken some effort on someone's behalf. I'm half wondering if it was customs checking to see what was in it. I'd be curious to know if anyone else had any similar problems.

The contents were somewhat "scuffed" on one corner but other than that they're fine.

One major grumble is that I'm working today and haven't had a chance to look at them properly. However from what I've seen they appear to be excellent with lots of artwork and a clear layout. Not at all what some might fear you'd get from something like this.

So once again a huge thank you to Greg for this.

I received mine today (29Dec)too in the IoM. Again package was slighly ripped down the bottom, but the books were ok.

Looking forward to going through these. There's a lot more here than on the playtest copies.

I'm here in Canada just up the coast from Greg and I still haven't got mine yet even though Greg shipped it before Christmas (I think).

Of course, this delay could have something to do with Canada Post's dismal sorting reputation ... sigh. But, if it hasn't shown up by Friday, I'm going to be asking Greg if we can track these packages somehow ...

The only way to track out-of-country mail is through Express Mail, and that is hideously expensive.
