Hi Greg,
I got my copies of the Book of Battle and Book of Armies yesterday - very nice work! I'm looking forward to trying out the new rules when my Pendragon campaign resumes in a couple of weeks. I think my players will definitely enjoy all the new options.
On to my questions. Four of the maneuvers listed in Step 3: Unit Maneuver have some some discrepancies in their Unit Results that I've been unable to sort out.
Pursue
Table 10: Go After the Enemy (Book of Battle, p. 31) says under "UNIT RESULTS" that a pursuing unit moves forward 1 Zone on a Loss result. On the other hand, the Unit Results table for this maneuver (Book of Battle, p. 32) indicates that the pursuing unit remains in the same Zone and is Disengaged on a Loss result.
I assume that the unit is in fact Disengaged on a Loss result, but it's not clear what the correct Zone change should be.
Chase
Table 10: Go After the Enemy (Book of Battle, p. 31) says that Unit Results are not applicable for a chasing unit, since all knights are Alone. However, the detailed description for the Chase maneuver (Book of Battle, p. 32) actually gives a Unit Results table:
Triumph: No Intensity change (it's over). Move forward 3 Zones, but you are Disordered next round. Everyone gets checks to Reckless.
Win: Move forward 1 Zone.
Loss: Move forward 1 Zone; Disordered next round.
Crushed: +2 Intensity; recoil 1 Zone; Disengaged next round. You should be ashamed; check to Cowardly.
I don't know how to reconcile this - apply the Unit Results to the individual knights? Ignore them altogether?
Run Away!
Table 11: Pull Back (Book of Battle, p. 33) lists the following under "UNIT RESULTS":
Triumph: Move back 1 or 2 Zones
Win: Move back 1 Zone; Disordered & Disengaged
Loss: Recoil 1 Zone; Disordered & Disengaged
Crush: +2 Intensity; Broken
On the other hand, the Unit Results table for the Run Away! maneuver (Book of Battle, p. 34) lists the following:
Triumph: Unit moves back 1 or 2 Zones; -2 Intensity; Disordered and Disengaged.
Win: Unit moves back 1 Zone; Disengaged.
Loss: Unit recoils 1 Zone, Disordered and Disengaged next round.
Crush: Unit recoils 2 Zones; Broken next round; +2 Intensity.
There are enough differences between these two tables that I'm not sure what the correct results should be.
Rally Battalion
Table 15: Rally Battalion (Book of Battle, p. 40) lists the following under "UNIT RESULTS":
Triumph: -20 Intensity
Win: -10 Intensity
Loss: Recoil 2 Zones
Crush: +2 Intensity; Broken
On the other hand, the Unit Results table for the Rally Battalion maneuver (Book of Battle, p. 40) lists the following:
Triumph: -10 Intensity
Win: -5 Intensity
Loss: Recoil 1 Zone; Disordered next round
Crush: +2 Intensity; Recoil 2 Zones; Broken next round
Which set of results is correct?
