Just thinking again, I'll never convince all my players to read BoB... Luckily they dont need to, only the unit leader (in my campaign we have a clear candidate for this) needs to know how battles work (and thus needs a bit of study).
However the other players will just follow. However they might want to rescue their squire, get a prisoner, retreat to bind their wounds, what happens if your alone, wounded horse etc.. Hence they still have a small list of options open to them. Perhaps a small handout for them might be appropriate, just to make them aware of their options/danger..
Or does this seems overkill?

That is how it is designed.
Most players only have to know part of 12 and part of 18.
However the other players will just follow. However they might want to rescue their squire, get a prisoner, retreat to bind their wounds, what happens if your alone, wounded horse etc.. Hence they still have a small list of options open to them. Perhaps a small handout for them might be appropriate, just to make them aware of their options/danger..
I don't think they need anything at all, once they have done it.
Such a thing might be useful anyway, and I'd like to see it.
You can bet that some of them will take a curiosity to page 22 and 80, too.
I will stress here again: walk them through the first battle, each step prepared, so they can see the mechanics, standard maneuvers, and understand the system.
