Someone mentioned a desire to breed "special" horses (Andalusians, Friesians, etc.) in Pendragon. Here is a fairly simply method for allowing such in KAP, using the Book of the Manor. I don't claim to be a horse expert, just a GM and gamer.

To start with, the PC needs to have access to the breed in question. Typically this limits such horses to the latter phases on the game. Since such horses are always rare, even when available, the GM might (and probably should) require an adventure for the Knight to get enough horses for breeding. So a PC who has his heart set on breeding Arabian horses is probably going to be away form Britian for a few years, if he is lucky.

Assuming that the horses are available, the GM simply divides the price of the breed in question by 10L (the price for a Charger in the latter phases). This is the Breed Multiplier.

Note: that a Gm might want to round this off, or not.

Now just multiply the Cost to Buy, Annual Income, Annual Maintenance and Glory award by the Breed Multiplier to get the appropriate values for that breed.

-A knight can reduce the cost to buy by up to half by giving up an appropriate horse from his stables. For example, a knight with a Andalusian Charger (20L) could reduce the cost for setting up the herd by 20L by "giving up" his Charger.

-A knight who wants a "special" horse for himself, can get one by putting aside the Income from the Horse Herd until enough is accumulated to "buy" a horse of the appropriate breed. This can be noted down with a H on the manor record, something along the lines of "Breeding a new Andalusian Charger +15H".

Here is a quick list of the breeds, thier costs, and their Breed Multipliers (cirica 530+):

Charger 10L (BM 1)
Andalusian Charger 20L (BM 2)
Destrier 32L (BM 3.2 or BM 3)
Araby Courser 28L (BM 2.8 or 3)
Barbary Charger 16L (BM 1.6 or 1.5)
Friesian 40L (BM 4)
Great Horse 50L (BM 5)

How does this look? ???
