Anyone know where the birth of Robert is noted in the GPC? It says that he is 3 years old in 495, but I can't seem to find his birth noted in 492 (or 491 or 493). I could have sworn I saw it somewhere, but can't seem to find it now.

I think it says somewhere that he's born the same year as Arthur, however that didn't quite work for me as to me part of the Arthur story is that he's the "Boy King" and having a "Boy Earl" at the same time somehow takes away from that.

So I had Robert born in the Winter Phase of 487, that makes him turn 21 in the Winter Phase of 508 and thus ready for Knighting (as the GPC describes) in 509.

That also gives me the room to allow for the Countess to push for early Knighting of Robert before 509 depending on what the political situation within Salisbury is. To me the GPC assumes that the Countess is respected and accepted as leader and therefore she's happy to wait until the "normal" Knighting age before her son takes over.

If after the death of Roderick the Knights of Salisbury push the Countess to one side and take over themselves, as happened in my first campaign, then I can see a drive for an early Knighting being quite strong and quite an interesting story.

Is there any plot device that requires Robert to be born on a specific year? If you go from KAP5 and say he was born in 484, is it going to be a game breaker?

I haven't read all the GPC yet so don't know if there is a reason.

Cheers

Yes. In the GPC Earl Roderick dies at the same time as King Uther, and most of the other lords, leaving Logres without any leaders. Salisbury goes through the Anarchy Period without an Earl, while Robert grows up. If Robert were older, he would come into his inheritance sooner and the country would seem stronger.

Oly,
At first I didn't realize that the GPC altered things from KAP5 and had Robert alive in 485 as in KAP5. When I went though the GPC and got to the part about a 3 year old Robert in 495, I had to do a little retconning. to get things to match up. I'll just have the 485 baby die off, and have Robert's born in 492.

I can see you point about a "Boy Earl" though. Since this is my first time running with the GPC, I want to follow it fairly closely, this time through (events permitting). If I do another Campaign, I'll probably experiment with things more. Probably use less Malory and Excalibur and more from other sources.
