In the 5th edition rulebook, there's a Sir Jaradan in Salisbury. He's the best swordsman in the Earl's court (22 I believe).

Is he based on anyone historical or legendary? I got the idea to use him as a jealous rival (I figure he thought he was the young knight with the best prospects up until the Player Knights help Merlin find bleepin' Excalibur) but don't want to make him into too much of a bad guy.

He is 100% created as a 100% "as desired" Gamemaster Character.

I used him exactly as you plan to, dunlaing. He was an interesting foil for the best knight in my group. A rival, but not an evil knight - each trying to upstage the other, but occasionally teaming up for the good of the county.

Cool. I wanted to make him a bit of a heel, but I would have felt bad if he was a "real" character.
