Okay, so one of my long dead character's daughter has finally come of age this past year, GPC 422. We played out the pagent at winter court and had some particularly catty fun. The young and beautiful Mary Violette got shown one for, for most of the games, but proved her own in winning the game of Passions!!!
Anyways, I'm looking for some good ideas for role playing a lady; is there more than simply woeing an eligable and strong knight? And what do I do once I get one? Do I take over that knight?
Thanks

For starters Greg's posted various pages about playing ladies in Pendragon on his site over here: http://www.weareallus.com/pendragon/1ladies.html which may be of interest to you.

My first thoughts on playing a gentlewoman are that she would be privy to the court intrigue that the male characters may not see during their campaigns. If she's with the knights on a regular basis, especially during the summer campaign, she can use her "diplomatic skills" to put the player knights in a better position to get the important task and help them complete those important tasks (especially if they require someone with a greater focus on courtesy, et al).

And, hey, a chirurgeon (sp?) is always useful after those big fights. :)

With theBook of knights and ladies you can flesh out a very nice Lady character. Dont forget her special heirloom. Besides the fact that she doesnt fight as good as a knight (obviously) she is just another character to be played. Dont'forget their one important miltary skill: Siege. Its perfectly reasonable and even expected to some extent for a wife to know the basics about defending their Lords manor, castle, whatever. It's her job. In fact the average wife probably has more points in siege than her husband. Having an in-depth session where she defends her lands while her husband is away miht be fun. Heck, if it becomes too desperate she might even have to pick up a dagger herself, or God forbid, :o A sword.

SOP in our campaign is for another player to roll up and play your character's wife.

We've had daughters secretly take up the sword and become esquires. Or players who forget to marry off a daughter, who turns into a spinster and is shipped off to the nunnery to become a great source of Intrigue--or scandal.

But some of the best women characters in our campaign have been NPCs: bits of the backstory accrete to them, and eventually there's enough there that we either put them down on a sheet for someone to run. Or not. I like having NPCs or PeeWeeCees in the story.

We haven't gotten to that point yet in our campaign. We're only in our third year (490) of the campaign, just after the Battle of Lindsey, so I haven't had the chance to deal with integrating wives and daughters into the game.

We have our first wedding coming up (one PC knight proposed to the "lusty" lady archetype just before he left for Lindsey, and she accepted...they're a perfect match, because he isn't Religious or Chivalric, with a healthy libido to match ;D). The other PCs have a longer road to travel to marry their prospective brides, so I'm hoping they'll survive 'til then. (Okay, I actually don't care if they survive 'til then, but I figure it's a nice gesture...hehe)

I've only played a lady once in a long campaign, and the GM made my character central to the plot- her sister was wronged by an evil knight, etc. etc. Also, the PC knights were sworn to her service by their lord. So we spent a lot of time on quests together.

It worked well for the campaign, but was kind of a strange dynamic at the table. I was the only female player, and after years of trying to fit in as a girl gamer and be one of the guys, it was super weird to have all the other players call me "my lady" and be excluded from all the combat scenes (although I did take over some of my character's knightly paramours, just for combat).

Anyway, that's one other idea.

All,

In my current campaign (currently in 488), I have the honor of having a female player who has two characters: One can be classified as a true lady type and the other a female knight (and yes, she is perfectly aware of the true history as to this challenge being an historian herself). She finds both characters challenging, but in Uther's time the one thing she definately feels is missing is the lack of a solo for 'Court' type players. I have one sketched out, but her input has been valuable.
