At Continuum, Greg mentioned that he'd like to see more Solos for adventure-deprived knights. So I thought I'd start a thread where we could throw out some ideas. Not sure if it's really Rules Questions but it seemed the best fit.

Some other ideas that came to mind:

- multi-year Solos, you do part 1 one year, part 2 later on, perhaps even over generations, e.g. one year the Green Lady gives you a token, many years later she comes to your grand-child to retrieve it and asks a favour. They could follow on directly, or the next part happens after d6, d20, d100 years...

- subroutined solos, e.g. you try to find a druid to get rid of Fae (see below), so go and do the "Find a Druid" Solo, if you find one come back here, else you have to find another solution.

Anyway, some solo ideas off the top of my head:

- Gaming tournament, chess, gdbywll (the game from the Mabinogion, can't remember how to spell it), etc.
Like a jousting tournament, but without the killing people.
Skills: Gaming I suppose. Get glory for winning just like a normal tournament.
small tournament = 10 people, big one = 1000 people etc. Gain glory proportionally.
Maybe roll for famous gamers to be present. Merlin in disguise? Mechanical Turk is a must (complete with dwarf, or maybe not?).
I like this one as it's quite meta.

- Falconry tournament, similar, except substitute birds of prey. Lots of opportunity for intrigue, flirting, and hilarious bird-of-prey fumbles.

- Escort someone important across your land. Check for personality - do you get on with them/hate them? Do bandits attack? Do they drop important information, give you a present, steal your wallet etc?

- Elf-shot. Village harrassed by pesky Fae. Go and talk to them, find a druid/wizard, or just smack them, the pointy-eared goons. This may lead to other quests.

- Bad winter weather - wolves steal cattle, sheep, babies. Find wolves. Beat up wolves. Profit!

- Merchant comes from afar to sell you interesting stuff, relics etc. Do you get ripped off? Do you rip him off?

- Building something from Book of Manor - village gets together for building, party afterwards. Can you hire proper builders or is it a bodge-job?

I'll post more as/if I think of them.

Adding some more solo ideas:

Feud/Rivial: We know everyone has rivials and many knights get involved in fuelds. If would be nice to have a solo where a knight could do something along these lines.

Politics: Maybe something like a Liege's Favor score that knights could work on by the actionsa and behavior at court.

Retinue: Some solo involving one or more members of a knight's retinue. The NPC could gain fame for some action, or get into some spot of trouble and needs help, or produces some item of exceptional qaulity.

Family: Some sort of family matter pops up that the PK could act upon.

Inspired by the tale of Sir Launfal and frustrated at how unlucky my players were at getting married, I did a little solo with one of them.

During his vigil in a pagan grove, he fumbled his energetic and fell asleep. He woke you in fairy where he saved the life of a lady which was being chased by a beast. She offered her love on condition he didn't tell anyone of their love.

She gifted him with a sword that would be true whenever he needed it most (one crit per year) and she would come to him when he slept in a grove where ever he was. She would also be able to heal him.

One summer solstice a baby was left in a basquet of rose thorns (on the outside and petals on the inside) at the door of his manor. The knight who is single has adopted his 'son'.

In a few years time, his next character will be half fae (from book of Knights and Ladies.

Obviouly he has to keep this secret. So decietful and chaste checks are in order.

Love this one, very evocative and touching.

Love using faerie in small ways to add some mystery and magic to the story.

I ran a solo for Sir Ysgarran during our last session that was based on random family events from the two previous winters. The first winter, his sister was married. The second winter, his sister was the subject of rumors of an illicit affair. So I wrote up the paragraphs below and gave them to the other players to take on the roles of the sister, her husband, and her lover. This was a good opportunity for Sir Ysgarran to test some traits and passions. There are several potential outcomes for this scenario, but none that really satisfy everyone.

Ysabel [The Sister]
You are the sister of Sir Ysgarran. In 484 you were married to Sir Bleidd, however rumors soon began to swirl about the amount of time you spent with young Sir Owain while your husband was away. Sir Bleidd just returned from the summer campaign to find you pregnant. He flew into a rage, believing the child must belong to another, and you have fled to your brother’s manor at Berwick St. James for his protection.
Goals: Live, ensure the safety of your child.

Sir Bleidd of Deptford [The Husband]
You were married to Ysabel, sister of Sir Ysgarran, in 484. While she administered your manor at Deptford, you have spent much of the last two years campaigning in the service of your liege. When you were home last winter you heard rumors that your wife was spending quite a bit of time with a young knight while you were away. Now you have just returned from raiding with Prince Madoc’s army to find your wife pregnant; surely by another man.
Goals: Avoid dishonor, Recoup your losses

Sir Owain [The Lover]
You are a young landless knight who has fallen in love with another man’s wife, who you are certain loves you as well. You know it is wrong, but surely no one can deny your love? Ysabel now carries a child. Word has reached you that she has sought refuge with her brother now that her husband has just returned from campaigning.
Goals: Win Ysabel, Raise the child
