View Full Version : Following a withdrawing/retreating army

An enemy army retreats or withdraws from the battle field in an ordered fashion (does this take 3 turn and if so where does it say this).

What happens if the opposing general doesn't want to let it go and keeps following it (in game terms a follow or pursue action)?

Does the battle still end? Can the general force it to be prolonged?

I am not sure where, but it does say it in BATTLE 1.1
The signal is give--the army starts to withdraw
Two more successful withdrawals and they are off the field
Successful = Battle Intensity does not go below zero

It is presumed that an army will follow a retreating army, pushing hard to try to break them

Yes, it ends.
No, the general cannot force a prolonged battle.
They got away
They have switched to column formation and are marching away, faster than your army, and with a rearguard.

Other options are beyond the system, but could certainly be figured out by a GM who wants to push it.

Pursuit too far is likely to end badly. The field is no longer the planned battlefield--it has plenty of things to break up an army formation and set them up for ambush.

Thank you for your response, it even answers another question which I was going to go rummaging through the BoB for (if it was possible to hit 0 intensity if an army withdraws when it hits 15).

However "Battle 1.1"?

That will teach me for being away from the forums for a while.

Is there a "Battle 1.1"? I pre-ordered the BoB before it was released and have gone through the errata, is there other stuff that I've missed?

Not yet, but the new editions being released by Nocturnal will include all errata, plus some improvements.
It is going to Nocturnal as son as some diagrams are done. They will release it asap.
