When hunting, once your prey has been located, is it honorable to send your hunting dogs to attack it? Is it wise? Is it expected?

Why waste a training/practice opportunity, if not for yourself then for your squire?

How about sending your dogs AND also attack yourself?
I don't necessarily approve of it, I'm just curious.

In game terms, I want to make the challenge tough enough for the squire or PK (depending upon the prey) to ideally earn a weapon, Valorous, or Energetic check. Or at least to maintain those values if the challenge is not quite check-worthy.
See, although IIRC Pendragon doesn’t have a formal mechanism for this, skills will dull amazingly quickly if you don’t keep in practice. If I don’t regularly face bears and boars afoot, practicing executing my shots with perfect form despite the incoming real threat, how do I know that I will be able to do so when facing a berserker? So I insist upon regular practice against real challenges to maintain PKs’ high skills.

It really depends of what kind of hunting you are doing. Try to find the old Lordly Domains book, it has an excellent chapter on hunting and falconry (if perhaps a bit too detailed).
