Hello again. Another of those thought experiments...
During the Anarchy, dynasties fall and new ones rise. However, the question is, what if the PK's want to participate in that nice mayhem?
In general, I have allowed them to transfer their Loyalty(Lord) from the father to the son when the Liege Lord dies and the new one takes office, rather than re-rolling. I have no problem with this, since I could see the argument being made that they are loyal to the bloodline rather than individual, or that the respect for the father endures and they serve the son first because of that.
However... what if they don't want to follow the son? My understanding of the way these things worked in Middle Ages is that the oaths of loyalty were intensely personal. You didn't swear to the Crown of England, but to the current king. Of course, if the kingdom was peaceful and the succession was not contested, then it would have been folly not to swear allegiance, since the new king would have instantly branded you as a rebel.
To betray your Lord would of course be a heinous offense, but what if the man is already dead? Can you erase your Loyalty(Lord) and turn upon his heir without ill-effects? Or would your Honor suffer for it?
