I apologize if this has already been thought of and added to the Book of the Manor 5.1 -- I haven't gotten that yet.
Roman households used geese as nighttime sentries as well as for meat. Indeed, Dionysius of Halicarnassus (Book VIII, Chapter 10) reports that when the Gauls attacked Rome it was the Capitol geese who gave the alarm “rushing at the barbarians” while the human guards slept.
So I propose the following addition to the Manorial Investment list:
Goose Pen
This is a goose-pen that attracts a goose flock for protection and nesting. Financially, it is identical to the Dovecote (it too provides meat). However, when placed next to an enclosed area where the geese may roam (e.g. a manor’s courtyard or dry moat), any person entering that area will cause the geese to raise a clamor. Thus they have long been used as night-time sentries by households who could not afford human ones.
Cost to Build: £5
Annual Maintenance: £1
Additional Income: £2
Does this sound fair?

Change the income to the "standard" 1-2 L.
Maybe add "yearly roll to prudent" (the 2 annotation from BoM).
Just my 4.8d...

With villagereaver's comments, it sounds very good! Goosefeathers were used in the fletching of an arrow. Don't know if there should be any bonus based on that, but certainly something that might be hinted to a martially minded player. Cry havoc and let slip the Geese of War! :)

Here is a list of manorial improvements that I use in my campaign which you may also find interesting, now also including the Goose Pen.

Clear Credit:
Gideon13 - Goose Pen.
Dr. J.M. “Thijs” Krijger - Proofreading, and original idea for the Astrologer and Herb Garden (Herbary).
Greg Stafford - Clothmaker, Proctor, Woodwright and suggestions for Cooperage, Aerary and Vault.
Palomydes the Saracen - Forester.
Note that I have tweaked some of the values from the BoTM canon values to suit my own taste. These are minor changes but changes nonetheless.

Sir Pramalot, I'm afraid the link you've posted no longer works -- is there a way you could remedy that for newcomers to the forum?
Thank you! Good suggestion, Gideon13. I'm sure a liege lord would appreciate some well-crafted arrows from a knight's manor as well, if I may be so bold.
