I have a problem with the random method from BOKL: it penalizes players for rolling their knight's attributes rather than allocating a fixed number of points via the standard method. Standard method assigns 60 points to five attributes for an average of 12. Random method requires rolls of 3d6+1 with 11.5 being the average. Subtle bias. Being contrary by nature, for Exile Sons I knew this had to change. I had my players roll 4d6 for each attribute and drop the lowest die, giving 12.25 as the average. Instead of beginning my players 2.5 points in the red, they were now 1.25 in the black and that gap of nearly four points made a big difference. And as we advance through the GPC into Arthur's reign... something that is still a long way off... I'll likely have my players roll 2d6+6 for attributes to reflect the twin boons of peace and prosperity. Their knights are going to die in droves anyway, why not favor them a little out of the starting gate?
